Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 10:47 AM by Kamika
I was too young to like Nirvana before Curt blew his brains out but I bought all their records when I was 16..

man like 95% of all their songs on their "real albums" bleach, in utero and that 2nd album with teen spirit, could have been a single

12. Bleach was an amazing album
You can pick up all all kinds of subtle flavors on that album: Melvins, Vaselines, Pixies and even the Beatles...

5. Small comfort
At least we never had to worry about Nirvana becoming diluted and redundant, due to the short musical life of the band.

6. I certainly do miss them as well
Kurt and Co. stood out among the Class of '91. Even Pearl Jam, their most succesful Seattle peers, have never resonated for me the way Nirvana did. I know we tend to mythologize people/groups cut down in their prime, and I will try to avoid that, but there really were special.

13. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I like it, I'm not gonna crack
I miss you, I'm not gonna crack
I love you, I'm not gonna crack
I kill you, I'm not gonna crack

I love Nirvana! Kurt was only two years younger than me. If you want some good listenin', I highly recommend the Outcesticide bootlegs, specifically #1. It's got my favorite Nirvana song, Pen Cap Chew. It also has gems like Blandest, Do You Love Me, Junkyard, and Opinion. The sound quality is rough which is the best way to hear Nirvana.

Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 11:53 AM by Kamika
Probably because it was the first nirvana album I bought and also the only album I bought that was actually "released" when I liked Nirvana..

The other albums had been released like several years earlier

16. What makes "Bleach" so cool? Very raw. Cut in one afternoon for $600
Jason Everman is credited for "guitar" even though he didn't play on the record. He did however, foot the bill for the $600 studio fee.

17. You know
I was never a huge Nirvana fan until after Kurt's death. My wife has always been a huge fan though. I guess she kinda showed me that they were a really good band, but I really think that Kurt Cobain got too much of the credit for how good the band was.

In my opinion though, Dave Grohl was every bit as much a driving force in Nirvana as Kurt was. This is evidenced by the great music that the Foo Fighters has been putting out the last several years. They are currently, will probably remain for quite awhile, one of my very favorite bands.

For example:

Learning to Fly
He's my hero
Everlong
All My Life

Just a few, but I think these guys will be around and will be putting out great music for a long time.

(Sorry to hijack the Nirvana thread with the Foo Fighters stuff)

19. i think grohl let out a lot of feelings...anger mostly....
...on the foo fighters first album...listen to "i'll stick around" or "alone & easy target" and "for all the cows".....he was close to cobain.....there are also some pointed and thinly veiled references to courtney love peppered throughout the album as well, going as far as to call her a black widow in the song "watershed"....it was the best cd they have made IMHO.

i can remember exactly where i was when he died...i was in a state of shock that day...

RIP curt......
