Milk of Magnesia is to a firm bowel movement. (In other words the two are not related)

5. LJS is fast food. So if your in a hurry...
On the other hand if you have a bit I suggest the blackened Rainbow Trout at RL. You won't regret it.

6. I don't like seafood. Theirs is tasty grease
It was one of my mother's favorite restaurants for a while when my sister and I were growing up. I never was a big fish fan. I liked their fish though. Very yummy batter. There are none nearby where we live now. A couple years ago I had it last with my husband. I still like the batter. He wasn't impressed.

9. LJS is great for good old fish and chips
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 10:51 PM by kixot
Their batter is just about the tastiest around and just about anything on the menu can satisfy a good fried seafood craving.

RL, on the other hand is more of a site down/ dine-in kind of place and is running an all you can eat shrimp special in some areas right now. Expect to pay about $20 for the entree, though.

10. LJS gives me the Shitz.
Too greasy. It goes right through me and doesn't leave any nourishment behind when it does. No shit, last time I ate there, I had an Hypoglycemic "event" about 3 hours later.

12. I'm going to stick up for LJS.
I used to work at a Red Lobster. It's an evil republican company. LJS is a different kind of restaurant. I like fried fish and chicken, so I like it very much. Alas, I am on a diet and can't eat there but once in a very great while.

13. I've dined at LJS exactly once
In San Antonio. It was wretched.

If you have Skipper's in your town, go there. Very good fish, nice chowder.

Or if you're ever in Corpus, check out Catfish Charlie's.

14. You're comparing apples and oranges
Comparing Long John Silvers to Red Lobster is like comparing McDonalds and a neighborhood bar & grill for a good burger. If you want fast and cheap go to McDonalds (Long John Silver's), or if you want better tasting and don't mind waiting and paying a few bucks more go to the bar & grill (Red Lobster).

I go Long John Silvers for the chicken, but then again I don't like seafood.

15. What a choice!
Long John Silver = hitting head with hammer

Red Lobster = slamming head against wall

There are some good points to living in Texas. Here in Houston we have fresh seafood cooked in the Mexican, Cajun, Creole, Vietnamese (& other Asian) styles. Neighborhood joints (especially down on the bay or on Galveston Island) to really expensive places. That, and the weather guys are predicting nighttime temperatures might creep down to the high thirties in the next few days; high temps up to the sixties...

16. LJS
Very bad fish and chips; the batter has a weird aftertaste and they're shrimp are simply batter crusties with a small chewy piece of something in the middle. If you have a Captain D's in your area, go there.

20. Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips is much better
when it comes to fast seafood. Unfortunately, there aren't too many of them around, anymore. That used to be my favorite. Red Lobster is better than Long John Silver. Everything at Long John Silver is deep-fried. At least at Red Lobster you have more choices.

there was still one in Albany, NY, and a few in Western New York. I was willing to travel 30 minutes to visit the one that used to be closest to me. Maybe I should look this up on the internet, LOL!:D

21. Red Lobster is the worst restaurant in the United States.
Every menu item there is shit. The lobster tastes the same as the fish, which tastes the same as the salad. It is pure garbage, it is to seafood as Chi-Chis is to Mexican or Olive Garden is to Italian -- that is to say, it does not resemble a good seafood restaurant in any way.

Long John's, on the other hand, is a fast food restaurant which doesn't pretend to be anything more. The hush puppies are decent, I like the batter; and if there's anything tasting a little "off" on your plate, you can just douse the whole thing with malt vinegar.

I would MUCH rather go to LJS than RL, just as I would much rather go to Taco Bell than Chi-Chis. NEITHER is a good seafood restaurant, but at least LJS doesn't pretend that it is.

25. Red Lobster used to be good, but they aren't anymore
Their serving sizes are small, the only good thing is the cheese bread.
Long John Silvers is good, but it's all fried food. I like their Hush Puppies. I never had Arthur Treachers, and all of the Detroit locations went under over 10 years ago.
When I was a kid, we used to go to a place called H. Salt. They served fish & chips english-style, wrapped in newspaper. I remember it being really good.

26. In New England, you will not find any Long John Silvers...
... because we are accustomed to good seafood around here, and don't have time for the crap they dish out at LJS. You'd be better off buying some frozen fish at the supermarket and heating it yourself at home.

37. Same thing here in the heart of CajunLand
Our restaurants are excellent, our fish fresh. I still miss quick ole LJS. I loved their fish and the malt vinegar. The only place I can get malt vinegar in Lafayette is at Bennegans. The fish is great, but the malt vinegar is fake. Once again, I miss LJS.

Red Lobster closed here, also, for the same reason. Believe me, the food down here is fantastic, and we have an amazing number of restaurants for our size city.

28. LJS is the *worst!*
If you must have fast-food fish, get Captain D's, or probably anybody else's. Long John Silver's food is the worst I've ever had. The batter on the fish is *sweet* fer chrissakes!

One thing I miss about San Francisco is good fish and chips. There was a divey place on Polk run by Chinese ladies but still with a framed portrait of Liz II on the wall, and their fish n chips were to die for!

Red Lobster is merely tolerable, to me. Go find a decent seafood restaurant. There is NO chain in the US that is really any good for fish.

29. In the next town over, we got a LJS/A&W.
And it's really good food. They have frosty mugs of root beer, and the food is pretty good. If you like fast food. I'd stay away from Red Lobster, just because of the whole sponsoring blunder with Rush. Here in Oklahoma we have a place called Pearl's where you can get good seafood. Find something mom and popish that has good seafood. I'm sure they're around. We have a few here in OKlahoma City, so I'm sure they have them where you live.

LJS if you like fish with your grease.

Dead Lobster seems to specialize in "super shrunken" portions. I do like their cheese biscuits though, but there are seafood items in your grocers' freezer that taste better.

38. LJS to me
is more of a quick and easy way to get some seafood--not bad by any means. I prefer that for takeout. Red Lobster, that's definitely a dine in experience, that shrimp special going on now makes my mouth water! AND they have those grat garlic and cheese biscuits.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

41. An option only if you're on the coast, or are willing to pay a boatload
For the midwesterners, Long John Silvers and Red Lobster are about it in terms of finding a palce that serves more seafood variety than fried shrimp, fried clams, or fried fish.
