BOSTON -

Daisuke Matsuzaka snapped out of his slump and put the Boston Red Sox within one victory of their first AL East title in 12 years.

Matsuzaka won for just the second time since early August, David Ortiz homered for the fourth time in seven games and the Red Sox beat their Minnesota Twins 5-2 Friday night.

Already assured of no worse than a wild card, Boston cut its magic number to one for its first division title in 12 years. The Red Sox, who likely will open the post-season against the AL West champion Los Angeles Angels, began the night with a two-game lead over the New York Yankees, who also have locked up a spot in the playoffs.
