I mean, I'm saving for a car too, but may as well get up to date in the tools of the trade...?

You deserve the best, HT. Either that or wait for the next version.

2. I did read up on some reviews... |

There's more going for CS3 than against it, which seems the opposite compared to going from CS to CS2 (which I didn't do; I first entered Photoshop with CS2.)

As CS2 has a couple issues under Vista (though using compatibility mode seems to resolve those), that's when I opted to look at CS3.
I think I'll do a bit more researching... :D

8. By and large, people have had no complaints under CS3. |

I'll soon know if I do or not. :D

4. Yes, and you must not under any circumstances.... |

...use BitTorrent to download an illegal copy of Photoshop for free Because that would be wrong, immoral, unethical and stinky. Yes...stinky.
I don't want to hear even a rumor that you've done anything so reprehensible as go to www.piratebay.org and browse the lists of patently illegal software contained therein.
Doing so would MAKE YOU A VERY BAD PERSON.

Piracy is a two way street, but it's a road I try to avoid. Mostly because it makes prodding entities that do pirate or companies that have double standards on piracy a bit easier to do. :D

I always pay for software from small companies or ones with a reputation for being good employers or supporting liberal causes. I always donate to independent developers of "donationware" who make products that I use. So far, I'm Mother Theresa.
Where I start to come a bit unstuck is when the product is made by companies like Microsoft or other LGEs (Large Ghastly Enterprises). My halo gets decidedly tarnished when I'm confronted with the need to acquire one of these products.
