"There will be a stigma attached to this year's Mets. . .
franchise that will last forever."

So said Keith Hernandez just now on local Mets TV coverage, after the Mets lost the final game of the season and completed what is perhaps the most epic collapse in baseball history. Up seven games with only 17 left to play, the Mets completely unraveled and fell to a surging Phillies club. It was absolutely unbelievable, and heartbreaking.

2. Did anyone watch the game? I can just imagine the reaction of the fans.
The Mets will need a police escort to get out of Shea Stadium.

At one point, they had 99.8% chance of making it.

4. PLEASE KILL ME now
those of you here that know me by my mets avatar will know me by something else from now on...

much respect to philadelphia; even with a razor-thin margin of error, they had an opportunity and seized it while the Mets shit the collective bed

but I'm too busy trying not to throw up. :puke:

It's been 3 hours since the game ended and I still feel like banging my head against a wall.

13. I hear ya....
This was hard to take. Very hard.

Just remember this: at least we're not fans of the Republican Party of Baseball, aka Satan's and Rudy's team, aka the NY Yankees.

especially since we need to get our hands on Johan Santana before Emperor George does...Santana in a Mets uniform stirs the imagination--I swear I would happily chop off five years of my life span in exchange for having Santana pitch the first inning today instead of Glavine, aka the Braves' Trojan Horse....

Maybe Randolph is a plant as well:crazy:  :argh:

5. They didn't even make the wild card?
Damn, that's some hardcore chokage right there. Even the BoSox didn't fall that hard this year, and they've been looking a little scary these past few weeks.

18. I know that; I was watching NESN when they clinched it.
But they were getting a little iffy there for a few days--looked like they might let the Skanks take over. It's all good in the end.

I'm not friggin' surprised I have NOT seen RevSmitty tonight!
Sunshine Patriot...who used to write in the Lounge about how she and her friends used to delight in "taking over Citizen's Bank Park".

David Wright. The only Met I'd take on our TEAM. He can bat 7th.

G'night, New Yawk.

20. "Bring your wife and bring your pets, to beat the Mets..."
that one was coined way, way back in the late '70s or early '80s, by a friend of mine who, as it happens, is a rabid Phillies fan...

11. I followed the game from L.A.
I'm a transplanted NYer and it hurts just as much as if I was there.

Inexcusable. Unforgiveable. Un-effin-believable.

But they're still my team.
