8. I have issues with regards to earlobes. |
|
Attached earlobes bug me a little, but my husband has one that is, so I can get past it (it was the first thing I noticed about him in person though) because his other bits are perfect. However, huge, huge floppy earlobes are a major turn off that I don't think I could get past.
There, I confess. I'm a deranged earlobe snob. I want perfect earlobes!

11. Another pet issue.... |
|
2 dogs in the house; a dachshund and a bichon. The dachshund is a slow and inconsistent eater, and the bichon is a canine black hole. At feeding time, the bichon sucks down her food then begins "stalking" the dachshund's dish, biding her time and waiting for the moment of opportunity. When it comes, she swoops in and starts chowing down- I can usually hear her tags clinking against the bowl when it's happening and run in with the magazine to swat her. And the cycle repeats on a daily basis... I'm thinking of making a "cage" that she can't get her fat butt into for the dachshund's food, but I hate to have something like that in my living room....

she hides pieces of kibble all over the freakin' house. 3 to 5 pieces in each spot, and no rhyme or reason to where you'll find it. I've had it in my shoes, my gym bag, guitar cases, under the bed, in the laundry hamper- everywhere imaginable, really.

12. The phrase: "You cannot possibly understand because you're not a mom." |
|
(It's especially bad when the person in question says "mommy" or "mama.")
Now, I understand that I cannot necessarily understand, other than academically, three months of colic, or healing from an episiotomy, or nursing round-the-clock while trying to go back to work, because I've never been there. I came into my stepdaughter's life when she was 2. (No, her dad and I aren't married; close enough, though.)
But just because I've never given birth to a kid does not mean I can't understand the environmental impact of diapers, what size a 42-pound 5-year-old might wear, or why the preschool probably shouldn't be telling parents that their child's math skills "need improvement" at age 3.
I also hate that phrase when the speaker is using my disagreement to infer a lack of understanding. I usually *understand* where, say, my SO's ex is coming from, even though I don't agree. (I don't ever interfere with a private issue between them...but sometimes when I've vented to neutral third parties, I've gotten the above answer.)
I've been puked on, peed on, pooped on. I've been to the ER and wished I could trade places with her when the doctor reset her elbow. I've stayed awake with worry after she had an asthma attack in the middle of the night, just listening to her breathing. I've had that feeling of sheer terror when she wandered off as a toddler at the grocery store.
So she's my stepdaughter and not a biological daughter. So what?
(Yes, this is a sore subject with me.)

24. What makes it irrational is I get annoyed/upset when I hear it and it doesn't even concern me. |
|
Like if I'm at a restaurant and hear it at the next table. Or when I see it on a message board (not this one -- I've seen it in stepparents' forums on parenting boards). Or when it's all in my head -- I'm anticipating someone will say it to me (which they don't) and it pisses me off.
(I did get it at my friend's baby shower when I asked her if or when she was planning to return to her job...I made sure to phrase it carefully...and I still got the phrase, plus "a mother is ALWAYS working," from someone I had not met until that shower. Ugh.)
A corrollary to this is "just you wait." I've gotten this in response to wondering why babies need a wipe warmer (note: it was a non-snarky question, and not directed to the giver or recipient of a wipe warmer).

They're busy ignoring everyone else, due to their selfishness and inability to understand anybody else's problems.

The owners don't observe leash laws and let their dogs run loose out in the neighborhood. The dogs of course have to go to each house and leave deposits. Why can't the owners pick up their own dogs' poo? I just don't understand why they think it's okay to leave it there for others to pick up along with the fact that there are leash laws that are being ignored.
Petty thing to get upset about, but having to pick up after my own dog is enough.

Rather, it seems grounded in good sense (or good taste, at least). Irrationally angry: me, when I am interrupted during my very necessary "quiet time" during the day. I start to lose my mind if I can't isolate two or three hours daily to do my own thing and if I've set aside the time and then somebody dares to call or drop by, it's all I can do not to scream with annoyance.

You really ought to have your ESP checked. You are supposed to KNOW what they are thinking. :sarcasm:
Along the same lines, people who don't signal they are turning so you have to wait until they actually turn before you can pull out onto the road. I always shout out "Thanks for the turn signal dumbass" if their window is open. I have gotten a few reactions from that one.

61. Movies in which a dog (or dogs) die..."Old Yeller" |
|
and "Where the Red Fern Grows," for example. I can watch entire planets of human beings explode, but one dying dog just tears me apart. Irrational, of course, but I can't help it.

That's why I don't watch movies where an animal is the main character--they always kill them off in the end.

Damn thing walks around demanding food and attention like it owns the place and we are it's servants. I keep saying to it, "Keep it up cat and you and me are going shark fishing". It must understand on some level as it doesn't come anywhere near me.
The dogs feel the same way. They are always looking at the cat and then looking to me for permission to take it apart. Alas, I have to tell them..."Sorry guys, but NO". They still have hope though, everyday they give me the PLEASE, HOW ABOUT TODAY? look.

63. The Philadelphia Eagles - LOL |

Partly because Reid won't say anything substantive in his press conferences. It's always "gotta work on that." At least I have the Phillies, though! The sky's the limit with them this year.

I just hate it so much. I have a hard time eating if anyone around me is using ketchuip because of the smell. My son loves it, so now sometimes he gets some on me. I have to go wash with soap and water. If I use my dinner napkin to clean it, I need a whole new napkin.
When I was pregnant, I could smell if someone tore open a ketchup packet from 3 floors down.

http://clevercatinnovations.com/(S(esi54xfjaxquka454p5p1255))/top_entry_litterbox_order.aspx You can buy them at most major pet stores. I had that problem with my dogs until I bought these litter boxes. Problem solved. Hope it makes your life a little better!

74. My son peeing outside... |
|
I've been told boys do it and to not be surprised, but it drives me batshit crazy. Caught my boy doing it and chewed him out. Husband sat on the couch reading his magazine and didn't say a word which means 'No big deal...I did it as a kid, but I'm not going to say a word because I'll get in trouble'.
Logically speaking this should rank at the bottom of the list as for priorities in life, but I hate it, I tell ya', I hate it.

79. People who don't read the directions... |
|
this is another one that occured to me. I've seen people, my husband being one of them, who put something together or makes something, but doesn't not follow the directions. Then they get upset because it didn't turn out right.
I mean :wtf: There are directions! Read them! :banghead:
See what I mean? Drives me batshit insane.

I HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT when people touch me without my permission. Really, it makes me super-uncomfortable.

I found a workaround at the dentist. I was constantly freaking out getting sprayed by the dental tools. I found if I'm allowed to hold and control the curved saliva suction thing, that sense of control over the situation (no matter how delusional) allowed me to cope.
I go to a teaching clinic at the University and they use me as example of an offbeat problem with an offbeat solution. Good dentists cope. Authoritarian types freak out (and then I freak out) and the appointment goes downhill from there.

93. I'm never irrationally upset. |
|
I usually have a perfectly, logical reason to be upset. Usually it's someone else causing my upset, by doing something really stupid, that screws my life up and/or causes me inconvenience unnecessarily. That upsets me.
