NEAT FREAKS: If You're Fussy About Your Windows Desktop...
here's the program for you. This can be particularly helpful if someone else moves your icons around, or if they icons have moved "automatically" because you changed screen resolution (Safe Mode, or game play).

Icon Restore: http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/icon_restore.html

Icon Restore installs LAYOUT.DLL (along with the required registry entries) from Microsoft. Two new options are added to the pop up menu that opens when any Windows system icon (ex. My Computer) is right clicked. These options are "Save Desktop Icon Layout" and "Restore Desktop Icon Layout".

(Note: Some XP users have reported that it only works when they right-click the Recycle Bin system icon, instead of ALL system icons.)

After installing Icon Restore, simply place your icons wherever you want them on your desktop, right click My Computer (or any 'system' icon) and left click on "Save Desktop Icon Layout" from the pop up menu.

1. Anyone who would my icons around is asking for BIG trouble. :-)
But that program sounds pretty neat.

Thanks, guy.

5. Hey, I have a problem on mine
...and you sound like the man to talk to!

Somewhere along the way I made a shortcut to a page with a super-long name. I guess Windows doesn't appreciate that. Because now I want to delete the shortcut and I can't. "Cannot delete...the file name is too long."
I tried dragging it into the little wastebasket, renaming it (not permitted either). Right click, delete---no dice. It seems immortal. Is there anything I can do about it?
