Both excellent, though, of course. :hi:

9. Have loved his work for a long time.
Badlands is my all time favorite song. Trade out the word "fields" for factory and he sang for me in the 80's.

Yeah, I'm a Springsteen fan, have spent eight hours of my life at his concerts -- which, as you know, works out to two concerts.

And my son was one of the crew putting in the heating and air conditioning system in Springsteen's new house last week. (Which I thought was pretty cool.)

15. Clapton vs. Springsteen?
Slowhand vs. The Boss? I know, apples and rutabegas.

Obviously they're both great. One is one of the greatest guitarists and the other is more singer/songwriter.

But it just seems to me that Eric is trying a little too hard to force the image of the road weary bluesman. Bruce is just letting it come to him.

I guess I tilts a little more towards the one creating new and interesting music than the one who is more technically (and awesomely) proficient. My thoughts, anyway.

Addendum: Reagan thought that "Born in the USA' was patriotic. Maybe it was, just not in the way he was thinking.

19. Yes! I love his work.

He says such intelligent things. One of my favorite quotes:

"There's things that'll knock you down you don't even see coming..."
("When You're Alone")

I've been saying for ages that "My Hometown" should be the national anthem. :-)

21. Only since 1976
Kind of a johnny-come-lately for a Philadelphian! He had me at "Rosalita", and I've been a huge fan ever since. Concert prices have stopped me from seeing him live too often (only 4 times) but in many ways he's been part of the soundtrack of my life.

I've noticed he's mostly a Northeast/Rust Belt "thing" - that folks in the West generally don't "get" Springsteen.....

30. BTW, can the state of professional music reviews be any worse?
There are a few (Stylus Magazine, Village Voice, Austin Chronicle - stupid sources anyway) reviews that are bashing even Bruce's great new CD. I mean, what do they want? It's classic Bruce. I refuse to even visit some sites again over this.

My roomate in college put it this way:

"There is life before Springsteen, and life after you are introduced to Springsteen."

That was the summer that Bruce was touring with Born in the USA, and A bunch of friends and I saw him at the Los Angeles colisium, and it is one of those nights that changes your life forever. There's no going back after you have seen Bruce live.

P.S.

The night we saw him live in Los Angeles was the first night he performed his song "Seeds", which is one of his most amazing songs ever, and it is only available on his live set.

33. I've been on a particularly heavy Bruce wavelength today
a) he is the unofficial poet laureate of NJ, which is where a great rent has been torn in DU's social fabric :( , and

b) he has a song (on "The River") called "Sherry Darling"!
