USMC Eugene Sledge - Ken Burns' The War |
|
Filmmaker Ken Burns drew heavily on Sledge's memoir for his 2007 PBS documentary on World War II, The War. He was a U.S. Marine, university professor, and author. Sledge passed away in 2001 but his words remain.
"Sledgehammer" in his own words:
Warning, graphic video. By graphic, I mean more graphic than Ken Burns. Killing wounded enemy and shit.

Semper Fidelis, Sledgehammer.

2. Great to see him speaking |

His journal was riveting. Glad he kept it and made it public, unvarnished truth and all. He left many lessons to be learned about the savagery of war.
