3. Rollins
He has nearly as many homers as Holiday while having more runs and many more stolen bases. 94 RBIs as a lead off hitter, too, and 20 triples.

4. the absurd hitter's bandbox in Philadelphia disqualifies any of the Phillies
from ever receiving a post-season award. Offensive stats there are so cheap that all of their records should have asterisks.

20. Imagine if Schmidty had played at today's "hitter's bandbox"
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 02:34 PM by BOSSHOG
There would be no need of discussion of barry bonds, so I guess I'll give Schmidt an asterisk.

28. Jack Schmidt was the greatest third-baseman in baseball history
except for when Honus Wagner played third. :-)

(And Larry Bowa was a *great* frigging shortstop.)

But the Rockies are a better team than the Philthies. And Holliday is *way* better than Rollins. Rollins isn't even the MVP of his team, much less the league.

27. Hmmm...as opposed to the pitcher's paradise in Colorado...?
...does this mean all members of the Red Sox are ineligible for MVP? Seems to me, the opposing teams in Philly play in the "bandbox" too, and can ratchet their numbers up as well. For me, Rollins was the MVP, all the way...he drove that team from the start...

31. I've heard it for 14 years now...
hitters for the rockies have numbers "elevated by altitude," so they get dissed and dissed and dissed in post-season awards.

Well, it turns out it wasn't the altitude at all. It was the (lack of) humidity and the vast expanses of outfield at Coors Field. Since the installation of the humidor for storing game balls at average sea level humidity, Coors is about an average homer park. The park in Phillie, OTOH, is a homerun derby joke of a hitter's park. It makes Fenway or Wrigley look like the Vet. With any other team, Rollins would hit about .260 with maybe 12 homers. He is undoubtedly one of the two or three most overrated players in all of baseball. But instead of intelligent people noting the obvious bogosity of his offensive stats, he's actually being mentioned in the same breath with an utter hitting stud like Holliday as MVP? BS I say.

Matt Holliday is the fiercest hitter and the most valuable player in all the NL.

26. That player hit .276 with 28 HRs and an anemic 66 RBI
on a sad-sack last-place team. (Amazingly, the 28 dingers led the club.)

Not even within local calling distance of MVP numbers.
