Question for folks with recent experience--how long after the baby dropped
did you deliver your baby? It's so long ago I don't remember the details for my kids. Seemed like it was forever.

Just curious cuz my DIL will bring forth the first grandchild soon.

I only felt my first born drop and turn....
But I will tell you that the nesting instinct is real.....
with my first, I totally cleaned the front room.... I mean i CLEANED it....

within 24 hours I was in labor

my second.... I scrubbed the bathroom, I would have used a tooth brush if I had to....

went into labor that day......

both times I took a quick nap after cleaning.....
my oldest is 30 and my youngest is 24... I remember like it was yesterday......

GOOD LUCK!!!! And CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!

keep us informed....

lost

for the first I was a nesting fiend. for the second I went on a taco binge - must have ate 9 or 10 for dinner that night. He came at 3 in the morning.

5. It varies
Usually with a first term pregnancy, it can happen as early as six weeks before labor. With a second child or more, from a week to ten minutes is more common. But every woman is different, so there's no predicting.

10. about a month and a half
I went into labor on my due date. For giggles, we decided to have sex that evening  which usually put me right to sleep, instead, I was up until 11/1130 before I wanted to go to bed. About ten minutes or so of being in bed my water broke. The funny thing was, I could feel it happening so I managed to get out of bed before it actually gushed on my mattress. Waddled as fast as I could to the bathroom and sat on the toilet with the phone calling my doctor. I was in labor for 24 hours when we decided to go with the c-section because of stress on the bb and me. I wouldn't dilate, after all the drugs, I was still only 5 cm after 24 hours.

What a strange sensation that was when it happened.
Good luck to your DIL and congrats on your new Grandparent status!

14. and some of us never "dropped"
my stubborn little cuss didn't want to drop even after my water broke. 12 hours after my water broke I still had not had ONE contraction! Another 2 hours of low low induction chemicals and STILL only tiny ones on the monitor (I didn't feel them). Walking around the hospital, sitting on my knees. all the old tricks, no dice. Finally the oxytocin started making me feel them and I was losing control of my breathing, getting numb arms..so they gave me a shot of a very mild mild muscle relaxant Vistaril...and 45 minutes later she was born. Weird.

The doc said all through the non pain, no contraction part that she was sitting too high and until she decided to put her weight on my cervix, not much was going to happen. She remains stubborn to this day. In a good way though.

do tell us when the baby is born

16. Mine never dropped either.
It became a problem when he ran out of room and turned sideways so he could stretch his big self out. Needless to say, cesarean ensued.

The docs said it was just a fluke, but I think I have a weird pelvis. My second didn't drop either, but he didn't have to: scheduled c that time.

19. why thank you. It was an interesting delivery. no other drugs
though.

Oh yeah she came so fast when she did come that the doctor didn't believe the nurses when they ran to drag him into the delivery room. I was cracking up between pushes!!!!

Apparantly all 3 of my mother's labors and all four of my sisters' deliveries were exactly the same nothing, nothing nothing then BOOM! baby is here. LOL

15. 1- 1+1/2 mos. in my experience, but it DOES vary.
Some babies don't drop until the labor stage.

23. Bwahaha! Leftykid!

My little dudes were cooperative and went head-down early, but my girl? Sideways! For two months! Then she turned breech, then I fell down the stairs and she FINALLY decided to flip head down. Guess I showed her, huh?

22. I didn't feel a drop, but I sure remember the flip
It was about three weeks before I delivered. I was sitting in my car outside a restaurant, waiting to meet DH. All of a sudden I felt like I was in the movie Alien--my belly started lurching and surging--I could see it roiling under my maternity top. I remember going "WTF are you DOING in there?!" I had no idea the flip would be so dramatic!

for me about 6 weeks

(Of course, my son was born 2 weeks late.....)

It was awful. I felt like I was walking around w/ someone's head between my thighs (yes... I'm sure that will elicit some comments...)
