My company is closing at noon today because of the cold.
Wind chill in Chicago is -29, and temp is God only knows what.

The chairman and founder (a great man, today anyway) wants everyone to get home safely so we are out of here at noon --- pending the department manager's approval. My department manager is ecstatic.

Woo Hoo!

:toast: to Bill!

1. Wow, is it really 4 below zero, actual air temp?
That's what the Chicago Tribune page says. Pretty amazing for the middle of the day.

Stay warm!

:hi:

2. Now -1 according to weather.com
I'll try to stay warm. When I leave I must go to Old Orchard for gloves. Mine died and everything else is too big.

Thanks, Peter.

5. Have you looked at the forecast?
Central and Northern Alberta (where I am) is due for anything from 10 to 30 cm of snow in the next 24 hours. That's in addition to the windchill.

16. It's quite a bit nicer today
I'm enjoying this weather. It's invigorating! Besides, that last Chinook really gave me headaches.

4. The Chicago Tribune says it's going to be a whopping 18F tomorrow.
And 28F on Sunday. And compared to this, that's going to be a heat wave.

I'm glad you're getting off from work early. :-)

Stay warm,
Terry

7. I took a cab from the train station to work this morning.......
I just didn't feel like dealing with the 7 block walk today.

At least the sun's out.

11. Not me...
I've got more layers than a chicken farmer and the walk was just fine. Of course the insulated undies help quite a bit!

I could barely take the walk from the parking lot to my office, and that's only about 100 yards. Damn canadians!

And he's told me about winters out there. -30 - -40F...UGH.

I've really got nothing to complain about here in Chicago.

19. yeah, but the big question:
will they deduct a half day's pay from your check next week?

I was working (retail) in DC on Tuesday during the ice 'storm' and people kept asking me why I was open? well, dumbass, I get paid by the hour, no worky, no rent. no rent, and it's a damn sight colder out there.

I'm also a consultant. I worked monday and tuesday, when the feds shut down and all, cause hey, no work, no pay.

I need a real job.

21. No, they won't. And that is a good point.
I am salaried and not hourly. Those who are hourly were told to put that they had worked until 5 on their time sheets.

Good luck finding a real job.
