DU women only: Is baldness a huge turnoff?
I lost a lot of my blond locks in my twenties.

I work out and try to keep myself fit. The hair is thin but still covers my head, though I now can get sunburned up there which smarts in the shower. I keep it short and always tell the barber/stylist, "No fucking comb-over!" That is something I will never do.

I don't like the side affects of some of the so-called cures, so I have done nothing more than wash and condition it.

I'm 48 and single. Most people would consider me balding, not bald. The enemy is encroaching pretty much everywhere on top and I have a noticeable bald spot in the traditional location.

To me, it's not a big problem. Having to worry about sunburning the top of my head is a minor annoyance.

So what say you, ladies? Is it a dealbreaker for you?

If your hair is going, help it along and go for a smooth, sleek head. Much better than 'fuzz' or sparseness.

I do, however, detest combovers. I also don't care for long, thinning hair. If you are losing your hair, keep it short. Or just shave it all off.

If someone doesn't want to be with you because you've lost some hair, she's not worth knowing anyway.

15. No dealbreaker for me
I obviously can't speak for all women but I'm a 41 year old woman and I think that attractiveness is about much more than hair or lack thereof. Some of the sexiest men I can think of don't have a full head of hair. And it sounds to me like you're wearing it exactly the right way you should, nice and simple because comb overs never work. I have no objection to the shaved head look but I don't think you should feel you need to run right out and do that immediately. If you're comfortable with what you've got that exudes sexiness. But because I'm a mom as well as a woman I have to remind you to put sunscreen on your head!

17. When I was much younger I really wasn't attracted to a man
who was losing his hair. At 44, it is not an issue. What is an issue is what the man does with the hair that remains. Letting it grow to "compensate" for its scarcity is a turn-off. Not washing it because it's too painful to see good hair go down the drain, that's a turn-off.

A confident man is always attractive, with or without a full head of hair IMHO.

Bald guys are HOT.

On edit: just shave it when it's time. Don't try to have half a head of hair.

Also, male pattern baldness is a sign of elevated testosterone levels in men. So usually bald guys are more...virile. :D

(unlike some of the other respondents) and for me it doesn't make any difference - My husband is bald - I like him because he is funny and smart. I have to say though that there is a lot of anti-bald sentiment out there. Women have said things about it to me that I found very short sighted and not very nice.

I say shave it all off - I wish my husband would.

Combovers and bozo hair are turnoffs, though. Bozo hair is when the man is bald on top but lets the hair on the side grow long or too full. Yuck!! Very clownish looking. Cueball is definitely better than that.

Not that it would be a huge turnoff if I actually got to know the guy and liked him, but I have to admit I've giggled along with a few friends when we see a guy with thinning hair on the top try to cover it by combing over long hair from the side. The comb over thing just doesn't look good, imo!

I'm married, so it's just not an issue for me, except that my hubby's hair is thinning a bit. LOL It's happening so gradually that I just don't notice it.

I tried it, and I love it. Low maintenance, it's a clean look, and I think I look better. I had really fine hair to begin with, and when it started to go thin and grey, I just took the plunge and never looked back.

Shaving your head is a lot easier than you think No need to buy special razors or anything. You'll learn to go by "feel" and the sound of the razor. Hell, I even used an electric, at first.

Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 09:47 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
If he has high intelligence, a kindly attitude, and a sense of humor, he can be bald or dread-locked or anything in between.

The one exception is that comb-overs and toupees make men look like dorks.

I once knew a man who blamed his baldness and weight for his lack of luck with women. He complained that women were "superficial and would never look at someone who is fat and bald." He could have walked down any street in America and seen fat, bald men in the company of a wife or girlfriend, but he couldn't admit that the problem was his personality.

We are both in our early forties and got married last month. I love him because he is smart, caring, and funny. I find him totally sexy and attractive. His hairline is receding and he has some gray mixed in with his red hair. He doesn't complain about it and I wouldn't care if he'd lose all of his hair.

If you have the head for it, just shave it completely. However, the worst thing you could do is a comb-over. HORRIBLE.

68. Definitely not a turnoff. Some balding men are quite distinguished looking.
I think you're right to avoid the comb-over, by all means. And if you find they suit you, you might find a well-trimmed beard and moustache can do something decidedly handsome for a balding gentleman's look.

69. bald is hot, sparse is not
Once I get the chance to actually meet and talk to a guy I don't much care about what is or is not on his head. But when it comes to initial attraction cue ball gets my attention as does a full head of hair (and I only go for full heads of hair if it's a nice style that compliments his face, so I guess I find myself being mostly first attracted to cue balls). It's that in-between sparse "going bald" look that at first sight doesn't do it for me.

Shave it all off and shine it up. Cue ball is sexy as hell. I actually dated someone a couple of times ONLY because he had such a nice smooth round textbook head... too bad what was IN his head wasn't attractive enough to keep my attention.

71. Hell no it's not a deal breaker... it's SEXY.
And I don't mean just bald... I like the balding look too. I don't know why, but I sure do.

72. No abosolutely not. It is all in the personality. But I like it when bald
men keep their hair very short. That looks good.

73. All or none.
Being from the 60s, hair has always been my thing.....I've always been attracted to men with not just hair, I love long hair......So I would be attracted more to a man with no hair than just some hair! Bald is cool.....
Shave your head! I'd go for a bald guy....and at my age, there aren't too many men with a full head of hair....
There are a lot of young guys around with shaved heads...
So it's a youthful thing in this day and age....
This is probably the longest reply I've ever written....
Rambling about hair....
Go for the hot hairless look....
:hippie:
Our hippie is bald... ;)
peace~

74. The right woman for you won't care

Because SHE will find you attractive & that is all that matters....

Beauty is completely subjective.

76. Are you talking bald head or bald ass?
That could be a big deciding factor.

79. Baldness, no, not at all. Comb-overs, bad toupees, or letting what's left get long and
stringy, definitely a turn-off. I have no problem with bald heads, they can be quite sexy in fact.

80. Funny story
I have a coworker, a very hot looking Parisian French woman.

She asked me once if she could take a picture of me.

Why?

Because I look very much like her husband. I am bald on top, have very little hair on the sides, and I cut my hair very short (1/4" buzz).

She wanted to show her husband, who is desperately trying to hide his bald pate under a horrendous comb-over, that balding men with short hair can look attractive.

I've never been more flattered in my life.

81. No. But if it's partial baldness, keep the sides short.
Bald on top, long on sides and back is not an appealing look. (IMHO.)
