List your favorites of 2007 so far in these categories
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 03:29 PM by mvd
Favorite album, favorite book, favorite movie, favorite TV show/program, and favorite event. The first three have to have been released this year.

Mine:

Album - Bruce Springsteen's Magic (I'm not saying I haven't liked any albums as much, but it's hard to deny Bruce the title)

Book - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Movie - Sicko

Favorite TV Show - Countdown with Keith Olbermann (if it wasn't for Olbermann, I'd be boycotting MSNBC because of Russert)

Favorite event - Live Earth

For your info., here's my top 20 albums list at the moment:

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
The Pierces - 13 Tales Of Love And Revenge
Barenaked Ladies - Barenaked Ladies Are Men
Patty Griffin - Children Running Through
Brandi Carlile - The Story
They Might Be Giants - The Else
Mandy Moore - Wild Hope
New Pornographers - Challengers
Kate Voegele - Don't Look Away
Vanessa Carlton - Heroes & Thieves
Josh Ritter - The Historical Conquests Of Josh Ritter
Alexa Wilkinson - Lullabye Appetite
Bruce Springsteen - Magic
The Dollyrots - Because I'm Awesome
Against Me! - New Wave
A Fine Frenzy - One Cell In The Sea
Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight
The National - Boxer
The Donnas - Bitchin'
Imperial Teen - The Hair the TV the Baby & the Band

Many honorable mentions. Of course, I didn't include an album if I haven't heard all of it or enough to be certain. Also have to hear some albums again before deciding.

1. Hmm...
Favorite album:
Tough call. As of right now I'm gonna call it a three-way tie between El-P, Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys.

Favorite book:
I don't think I've read anything released this year.

Favorite movie:
Inland Empire

Favorite TV show/program:
Lost

Favorite event:
Not quite so large scale as yours, but when Children of Eve moved from here to Halifax, their going away show was probably the most fun I've had at a show in a long time.

3. I'll ask for full album lists when the year is over
Mine is still a work in progress. It is like, choose Rooney or Against Me? Stars or The National? Aly & AJ or Kate Voegele? The Stars album is almost as good as Set Yourself On Fire, but SYOF would make the list for sure.

For book, we would all enjoy Gore's The Assault On Reason, which I just finished. :hi:

5. You introduced me to that one
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 03:16 PM by mvd
Thanks!

The Clientele - God Save The Clientele might wind up on the final list. Right now, I included a couple that are fresher in my mind.

2. God, this is depressing.
Album - Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime II, the only album I've bought in at least three years. It might be 2006, actually, but it's as close as I can get to answering the question.

Book - Stephen J. Cannell's White Sister. It isn't the best in the Scully series at all, but the anticipation for me was unbearable.

Movie - Haven't seen a 2007 movie yet to the best of my knowledge, and I haven't seen a movie in the theater since the Clinton administration.

Favorite TV Show - CSI, although the first episode of the new season was boring, predictable and just sucked.

Favorite event - Last night's season-opening win for the Canadiens.

Of the above, only the last item really made me smile.

This year sucks.

6. Let's give this a whirl
Favorite album

I'm really digging Jason Isbell's "Sirens of the Ditch" which is odd because it's really not my thing.

Favorite book

Committed: A Rabble-Rouser's Memoir by Dan Mathews

Favorite movie

"Sharkwater" was really good, as was "Earthlings"

Favorite TV show/program

"Two and a Half Men"

Favorite event

Live Earth. Didn't go, but was glued to webcasts all day.

13. I enjoyed..
those Wilco, Foo Fighters, and White Stripes albums. Glad to see you're starting your list, too. Will it be 15 at the end? Mine will stay at 20 with a second part listing other very worthy albums.

14. I know the new Radiohead will make the list somewhere.
But really, this year it's been really hard to come up with a list of 20 that I've really enjoyed. Some of my favorite bands had new releases this year (like Porcupine Tree, for instance), that were major disappointments.

17. Oct. 10th according to their website
And it will only be available as a download, the CD comes on Dec. 3rd in a really huge, uber-deluxe box set that costs $80.

16. Oh Boy! Here goes:
Album:
Cubist Music by Edsel Gomsz - angular, avant garde jazz gets all warm and beautiful.

Book:
Money for Nothing by P.G. Wodehouse - funniest man that ever wrote... at his peak.

Movie:
American Splendor

Fave TV show:
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I rarely love anything on TV so I knew it was the kiss of death when I went head-over-heels for this one!

Favorite event:
57 Heaven auto museum in Branson, Mo.
Not an event? But....but....LOOK at these cars!!!!!!!!!
