Flame me if you want, but Leonardo DiCaprio is a pretty decent actor
I was still stunned that I spent 2 hours watching "Whale Rider" last night (yes, I didn't like the movie) and I was flipping through the telly looking for something interesting to watch.

I found "Basketball Diaries" on Encore, which was one of Leonardo's earlier works playing the reallife James Carroll, who's spent some seriously part of his teen years shooting herion and playing basketball.

And Leonardo was really really good in this movie.

Go figure!!!

1. He's an Environmentalist too
I've always thought he was a great actor .

Basketball Diaries and what's eating Gilbert Grape

2. Go get The Man In The Iron Mask
Gabriel Byrne robs the scene, but wimpy-boy does rather well too.

4. I've alway thought so.
The first thing I ever saw him in was "This Boy's Life". He was phenomenal. The only thing I ever saw him in where I though he was unbearable was that movie about Rimbaud and Verlaine. I forge the title of it but it also starred David Thewlis. Otherwise, I do agree that Leonardo is a talented actor.

7. I liked him very much in "Catch me if you Can"
which was a marvelous movie. The interplay with Tom Hank's character, an FBI agent was humorous.

All I have to say is he sure has improved since Titanic!

15. EEEEEEP!
While i like his politics, i think he needs to be enrolled in Overactors Anonymous. An intervention appears in order.

Everything is so studied and melodramatic. Facial expressions, line delivery, everything.

The only thing i've ever seen him in, which he didn't either ruin, or nearly ruin, was Catch Me If You Can. And, the movie itself is sort of "eh". Maybe he's aging into his potential skills, but i've yet to see a performance that i thought was REAL or GOOD.

19. If you liked the movie
You will LOVE the book! Its so much better, its hard to describe. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I'll save my comments on DiCaprio's relative merits as an actor.

18. I think he's a good actor-his roles haven't been great lately
He was great in "This Boy's Life", "Gilbert Grape", "Basketball Diaries".

I hated "Titanic" and "Gangs of New York"-all the actors in these flicks were victims of poor screenplays IMHO.
