Why do I always get sick
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 06:44 PM by huskerlaw
when I have eleventy billion things to get done, and a very clear (and rapidly approaching) deadline within which to do so?

x(

Honestly. I'm a really healthy person. I get 1 cold per year, on average. So when do I get it this year? Right now, apparently.

I'm sitting here with a fever, a sore throat, swollen glands, and a raging headache. Wheee!

Sucks for me, since I'm supposed to start teaching 100 1st year law students on Monday and I'm rather entirely unprepared.

:banghead:

Oh, and did I mention that I'm supposed to be spending the weekend volunteering with the Edwards campaign?

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

1. I am hopefully on the end of my one cold per year, this has been
a less than pleasant 5 days.

I feel your pain.

3. 5 days?!
Nooo! I'm giving this cold 3 days. Then it will be gone. I'm putting my foot down. ;)

Hope you're better tomorrow!

5. in retrospect, I think this was a mild flu or one of those "viral syndromes"
that aren't really a cold and not bad enough to be flu. I did not call it flu because I never had the big fever you get with flu, but the recovery has been exactly like getting over flu. Chills, sweats, fatigue; chills, sweats, fatigue; ache, hot bath, nap; repeat several times daily. It slammed into me late Saturday night and Sunday & Monday were the worst days but Tuesday Wed and Thurs are not enough improvement for me to sit at a desk and talk to hostile customers with any degree of civility, plus I had no voice until today.

Glad I don't get these often. My husband OTOH gets about 4 of them a year and is always sicker. ALWAYS!

Hopefully you will recover faster than I have..Bet I am older too. At 58 I find I do not recover as fast as I used to.

10. Ah yes
my boss had the flu early last week...I'm hoping to hell that's not what I have!

I'm going to lay low tomorrow and try to will it away. Failing that, I don't have a choice but to be better by Monday. I have a 2 hour class to teach, and it involves a LOT of speaking. Ugh. x(

Oh, that's awful, sweetie...

Cyberhugs for you...no germs that way!

Hope it's gone very quickly!

How dare this virus interfere with your life, anyhow...

8. Exactly!
How DARE it?

I've been fighting it off all week, but it appears that I've lost the battle. :(

I'm planning to work from home tomorrow, in the hopes of beating it back a bit. We'll see!

7. I always seem to get sick right before a golf tournament.
Every year, I'm sniffling and sneezing at one golf tournament in which I play. This year, it was the one held two weeks ago. I played well though.

I'm guessing that you get sick when you have a lot to do because stress lowers the immunity. :)

16. Then again, there's also that old saying "Don't shoot the messanger"
Murphy writing the laws down probably didn't cause them to exist, he's just the one who let us know about them. :)

12. This probably classifies as TMI, but my female dealio does that
to me. Every time I have something great planned, it will be early or late or do whatever it has to do to make damn sure I don't get to enjoy anything or do anything without hurting.

I rarely get cold type sick, except when I go north then come back down south. I don't know why, but I get adjusted to northern climates so easily that when I come back home, I always get sick as a dog. It's almost like I'm allergic to this place.

13. Mine does that too
SO. FREAKIN. ANNOYING.

I also tend to get sick when traveling. Especially when I go home to the midwest in the winter. By the time I'm back in California, I'm terribly ill. I blame that on being confined and dealing with recirculating air though!

15. Stress reduces your body's immune response
there have been studies that have shown that medical students practically count as immuno-compromised. Ah, the irony.

Anyway, I hope you feel better soon, particularly to go and give Edwards some help! :-)

19. Getting sick sucks. For me, the best predictor of when I'm going to get sick is how much stress I'm
dealing with. For instance, once I caught a cold right before a move.

Maybe it's nature's way of telling us we need to chill. (I know, sometimes that's not possible right at the time.)
