Across the Universe - the movie?
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 11:38 AM by electprogdems
So either I am very behind the times (most likely), or this has been flying way under the radar, but apparently there is a movie featuring all Beatles music (yeah!). Has anyone seen this? I only ask because the nearest theater is over an hour away. If the music and movie are joyful, I would more than willing to drive even further, but if it's cheesy in a bad way, I can just play Beatles music at home. Thanks!

Using the actual Beatles' music in a movie could be done in a great way.

This movie has the actors and some pop stars singing the songs. (Salma Hayek covers "Happiness is a Warm Gun"??)

If you are going to reinterpret timeless art you'd better bring something to the table.
Sounds like, musically, the songs are all pretty close to the same arrangements with non-Beatles singing them.

All the inventive storyline and impressive visualization in the world may not make up for lame covers of great tunes.

2. Yes, I agree
Turning Beatles music into sappy bad cheesiness should be considered a felony crime. Still, I will probably go to the movie, and hopefully, I will be entertained in a good way. Thanks.

4. Anytime Bono sings Beatles it's probably at least worth admission...

However, "Across the Universe" is a Bowie song he wrote with John. It's not a Beatles song. Make a movie of nothing but Bowie songs? Aliens clubbing all over NYC, with lots of alien sex and excess... I'm so there!
