Alien comes to Earth. Bonds with a kid. Alien leaves Earth.

Big deal. I honestly didn't get what was so special about this.

2. Would you leave a 4 year home alone in a bathtub
The scene that always kills me in this movie is when the Mom leaves Drew Barrymore home alone to draw her own bath while she goes to pick up Elliot at school. Was that just insanity on the part of Spielberg and Mathison, or was it on purpose to show just how f'd up the Mom was supposed to be.
