2. I used to get mailed birds

They send them when they're just ready to hatch - when you pick them up at the post office, you get a box of little, freshly hatched, peeping chicks.

I got chickens and turkeys that way - there are whole catalogs of birds you can mail-order. Of course, I don't think that's what XemaSab is talking about but you can get birds in the mail. :D
