What should I cook this weekend?
Specifically, Monday. It's a 3 day weekend for me, but not for Sniffa. So I think I'll do an all day cook. Chicken stock? All day pasta sauce? Both?

I'm making Beef Stew on Sunday in the crockpot. :9

1. Well, I was going to suggest a roast, but not after a beef stew.

Make both stock and pasta sauce, unless you don't have enough pans. Winter's coming and you'll want to stock the freezer with at least a couple of pints of sauce and quarts of stock.

on edit: I'm making Moussaka tonight -- got to keep up with those insanely productive eggplants in the garden. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

4. I got pans!!
But, I need to get a slightly smaller chicken this time. Even with hacking it up, it barely fit in the stock pot!

Oooh, Moussaka...Yum :9

PS- I met Deval Patrick today :D

7. Do a tomato pasta sauce where you use pork as the base and shallots. Yummy.
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 05:04 PM by applegrove
Country style pork I think it is called. Lots & lots of garlic and oregano. Then you add ground beef near the end. Did I mention lots & lots of garlic and oregano?

Or google momos (Tibetan dumplings) and make up a batch of those and serve them with rice and hot sauce. The extras freeze well too! The beef filling is cooked while you boil the momos. So when you cut into them they burst open with flavor and spices.

13. osso bucco!!
You can use beef shanks if you're not a veal eater. Done correctly (and with love), it's a time-intensive dish (well, mostly just for all the finely chopping of the mirepoix and gremolata). And it's one of the best comfort foods out there. Risotto or polenta are excellent sides for it.

Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 08:36 PM by 1gobluedem
88 degrees in SE Michigan tomorrow. If so, then I recommend cold fried chicken, potato salad, and corn on the cob. Last blast of summer.

Edited to add chilled champagne or white wine. Heck, why not?
