9. "Grey" just seems - er- "grayer"
"Gray" reminds me of "gay": in both the light-hearted and carefree, and in the rainbow banner sense. Also the Merrie month of Month of May. Sort of a good thing to paraphrase Martha.

"Grey" just looks more bleak.

So it would be "We need to think in shades of gray", but "It was a grey and overcast morning".

My spell-checker insists it's "gray", BTW.
