My favorite superheroes are the really smart ones: Spiderman, Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Batman |
|
I never thought about it before, but I'm watching Fantastic Four 2, the scene with Reed Richards in the bar, and he's talking with some hot women about the structure of the universe. I thought, "that sounds like me", and then it dawned on me - my fave superheroes since I was a child are the brainiacs. And let's include Dr. Strange in this mix.
Spock, Sherlock Holmes, Encycopledia Brown, and the Three Investigators are also favorite fictional characters.
And my favorite villains are people like Dr. Moriarty, Dr. Doom, Doc Oc, Dr. No.
And no, I didn't intend for that list to be only doctors - those are literally the first four that came to mind.

1. With all due respect, Batman is a fucking moron. |

Think about the number of cases where he rescues some street orphan or mob witness and then puts them up in Bruce Wayne's mansion. No one ever sees them together, but Batman keeps on loudly announcing, "Yes my 'friend' Bruce Wayne has told me you can stay at his mansion until this case is over." How humanitarian. How retarded. Think about all the cases where Bruce Wayne's butler shows up on the scene as either a back up, or kidnap victim, or a getaway driver. Think about all the times Bruce Wayne suddenly disappears from the scene of a murder right before Batman shows up. And the first thing out of his mouth is, "Don't worry everyone, I've already moved my 'friend' Bruce Wayne out of harm's way. Now I'll solve this murder."
Pfff, like he's not going to move anyone else out of harm's way. Sure, they could all be suspects. Why not suspect Bruce Wayne then? I would, given all the times he happens to be right at the scene of a murder. Is there anyone in Gotham City who hasn't figured out the truth yet? I mean besides that senile fool they call a Police Commissioner?

2. It's not batman who's dumb - it's everyone else! |
|
And you're talking the TV show, anyway, which was just silliness. Fun. But pure silliness.
And non-canonical.

6. I got your non-canonical right here, pal. |
|
I'm talking about the comics. Let me dig thru my storage locker and I can cite you several examples of Alfred's kidnapping, Bruce Wayne getting "shuttled out" of the scene so that Batman can appear, and of course Bruce Wayne giving a spare guest bedroom to Batman's crime witnesses. It happens quite often. Too often. Batman does not hide his identity well at all.

10. It's not Batman's fault that his writers aren't as smart as he is. :) |

Nice choices. I'm fond of Morbius. A minor character in the Marvel universe, but I like him.

7. What do you think of Robert Downey Jr. playing the part of Tony Stark |
|
in the Iron Man movie? I don't think they could have picked a better person for that role.

12. I think it'll be a good choice. Certainly better than Danny Devito or John Pinette. |
|
But, yes, I think Downey will make a wonderful Stark. I just so hope the movie doesn't fucking suck, since it has such potential to turn into a great big ugly turd.

8. I'd include Xavier--except that I hate Xavier... |
|
...and I've hated him since JFK was President of the United States...one thing I can pride(?) myself on is that I was the first person ever to write Marvel attacking Xavier's character. Read UXM #3, to find out why... Anyway--if we forget him, I'll throw in hank Pym, who I do like...

11. Xavier always kind of bothered me, too, and it didn't matter who was writing him. |
|
He didn't seem like a kindly mentor type person; though he protected and trained mutants and saved the world many times, he seemed like a manipulative bastard who only did so for his own personal ego satisfaction, without any real care for the people under his care, except as tools to be used.

9. Props to you on your list |
|
And double plus good props for knowing who Encyclopedia Brown and the Three Investigators are!!!!
I would add Darkseid to your list of villains. Not necessarily for his genius, but when he was written well, he was the absolute last person in the universe you wanted to see opposing you. "The Great Darkness Saga" from the Legion of Super Heroes is one of my all time favorites.
And screw the spell check for not recognizing Darkseid.

Did they just kill the panel, or actually do the work?

16. I think threatening the panel would be enough. |

Especially if the project was to build a giant laser.
If I had a doctoral student who built a giant laser and who offered to test it on me and my family, I'd just assume it worked and not grill him too hard in the orals. :P
