Whats worse is they wont even discuss the matter with me...except via a live chat with a rep who is reading a script. They wont give me the name or an employee # of any rep. or supervisor who can give me any details. They wont tell me when it happened or exactly what happened. They told me to contact local police enforecment. This is total BS. I am the victim of a crime and they could care less.

2. It's getting to a point where I don't even want to do anything on line anymore |
|
considering several of my accounts have been hacked ( including this DU account about a month ago ). I'm sorry to hear it, and if it's any consolation to you, I hope the person who did this to you suffers a very painful head injury

5. Who knows, perhaps the person was bored, I don't know... |
|
but they posted lots of shit and attacked some people one night. I have a friend who used to be a hacker ( he doesn't do it anymore, though )I asked him once why he ever did it, and he said "for the thrill of it" To each his own, I suppose

6. The person who hacked your account was just a troll |
|
and rather than making their own account and trolling, they decided to screw with one that already had been around for a while.
There are basically three kinds of hackers... those who do it out of curiosity(and do little to no damage), and those who do it out of malice/boredom, and those who try to do it for profit. The one who hacked your account was in the second category. The one who hacked the OPs ebay account was in the third. The ones in the first category usually slip by unnoticed, because they tend to not DO anything, they just get in and poke around a bit. :)

8. Most use 'cracker' programs that continually try random passwords until one works. |
|
They'll set it loose and leave it running for hours, days, however long it takes. That's why a lot of websites started making it so that after a certain number of wrong passwords, the account locks for a few minutes. When the forums on my website got continually hacked, all I had to do was turn that option on and it stopped. I don't know if DU does that or not.
The other way is to leave some kind of trojan or spyware on your computer that will report usernames and passwords back to them.
I'm sure there are a few more, but not being a hacker, I don't know them. :)

where somebody used my pc to bounce data and send spam. I got hundreds of delivery failure notices. I was running a full security suite at the time. Apparently what happened, best I can determine, was a hardware problem (lots of suddenly bad hard drive sectors) that caused a security failure. The security failure permitted the installation of some autoinstaller. I could get rid of all the nasties (inxcluding the keylogger) - but everytime I rebooted the pc an install program would run which would permit a remote computer access.
I decided the computer wasn't worth fixing and bought a new one. Still running the old one (without any repairs) but it is not networked or connected to the net. I'll use it to scavage parts after the hard drive is officially dead.
Sorry for your trouble. I wanted to kill whoever caused all my grief.....

14. Yeah, I wanted to choke the shit out of the bastard, but I've calmed down quite |
|
a bit since then.
With all of our brilliant technology, you would think that someone out there would think of some way to prevent a person from doing this. Not knowing much about computers ( I actually hate the things ) that's probably not possible...My MySpace, Yahoo, and WAYN accounts were also hacked, and those were sending spam and some other weird shit, too.

16. Did you use the same password on all of them? |
|
If you didn't the odds are really good that you need to re-install your OS. You probably have a keystroke logger installed that is sending everything you type to someone else. And that they sent out crazy shit to a message board (like here) means it is probably someone you know online or off.

bank account hacked about three months ago. The person managed to transfer over a thousand dollars out of his checking account into theirs. I can't figure out how that can happen, though; one would think that online banking would have some kind of red flag for that kind of thing. Some credit card companies will notify the card holder if a large purchase has been made under their account if the account has not been accessed for a certain period of time.

10. That happened to me a few months ago, and I had no idea. |
|
I don't ebay much, so when I tried to log in, I couldn't understand what the problem was. It took a little finagling, but I was able to get a new password set up and it's fine now.
Unfortunately I think that happens a lot on ebay. It's so big, there's all kind of chances for things like that to happen.

15. Same thing happened to me. It was awful. I kept getting these spoof |
|
emails and 2 people who bought things said they paid and the money did not go to my paypal account. After a while of bitching and sending emails to ebay it got fixed and I finally sent their items to them.
Have you changed your password? It is almost impossible to get someone on the telephone.
I changed just about everything in my accounts including my email address.

18. Then there's always the 'fake' auctions out there that look legit. |
|
You click on their auction link and it sends you to what looks like another ebay login page, except it doesn't go to the official ebay site. So if you're not careful, you find yourself questioning if you logged in or if your login dropped. They ask for your login info and then it bounces you back to their auction page. You wouldn't know it, unless you knew to check the URL. Apparently there are LOTS of those auction listing around. They pop up like popcorn.
