Poll question: Who do you want to win Best Picture in 2003?
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 03:11 PM by mndemocrat_29
On edit, I am referring to the Academy Awards ceremony of 2004, but I always refer to it as 2003 because the films were made in 2003. Sorry if there is any confusion.

I'm only including the five nominees.

4. Orlando's unlikely to be on stage
Usually just the producers go up on stage to accept the award for Best Picture. The Oscars seem to be pickier about that -- in the other awards shows the whole cast seems to bound up there, along with practically anyone else who worked on or saw the film.

6. You know, this is the first time I've seen
most of the nominees. And all I can say is that I'm sorry Mystic River came out the same year as ROTK - Mystic River is a fine movie and deserves recognition, but ROTK is a heavy favorite, as the Academy voters have been saving kudos for this installment. (For what it's worth, I think ROTK IS the greatest achievement in motion pictures this year. I just wish it wasn't necessary to shut Lost In Translation and Mystic River out - they're both great movies.)

7. I want Peter Jackson to win Best Director and LOTR to win Best Picture.
Not because I've seen the films, but because I want to reward a less well-known director who obviously has the passion and commitment to see a long project through.

I will be seeing "Mystic River" in the theaters, but I have this problem with the Academy's fondness for rewarding actors-turned-directors. Clint Eastwood already has one Best Director statuette, and the Academy has a definite perverse streak in this category and might want to reward him a second time, rather than honoring Peter Jackson. May it never be!
