Garage Sale Jesus
third cousin to Supply Side Jesus stalks my neighborhood today. Restless Diesels shatter the silence. SUV's are double parked. People strolling in the middle of the street are oblivious. Stop signs are non-binding suggestions.

Our town has this scourge twice a year and today is one of them.

1. It's like a freakin' frenzy, ain't it?
Nothing is as important as finding a bargain at a garage sale for these people. They'd as soon as rip your skin off to get at that last hummel.

4. Kind of reminds me of when I lived in MN
Our city had "curbside cleanup day" one Saturday per year. Everyone would haul out all the stuff that the did not want to the curb. We would sit in the front yard on lawn chairs and watch all the "dumpster divers" picking through the discards.

8. Exactly.
Who needs Freecycle and Craigslist when you have Curbside Cleanup Day?

:)

10. Happens in Melrose, MA all the time.
My daughter has gotten some big plastic toys (slide, etc.) that way. And gotten rid of toys her son outgrew.

And we got rid of the old gas grill, too.
Put it out by the curb and it disappeared, piece by piece.
First the top and grates.
Then the firebox.
Finally the support base.
We decided it must have been someone with a very small car.
;-)

11. I love it
I wish we had those days here in MasterPlanistan.

I hate having to publish my addy on CL when I put stuff out in the driveway to give away. I suppose I could just do the whole email back and forth thing, but when I want to get rid of stuff, I just want it gone. I don't want to send 50 emails back and forth before it finally gets picked up.

12. Melrose is a cool little ville.
About 20 minutes from downtown Boston.
People are so POLITE.
On coming traffic will actually slow and wave you through for a left turn.
Got a great seafood place too, called Turner's.
Walking distance from our daughter's house.

13. My little burg had it's annual Halloween parade today.
This is the first time I've experienced it, and it wasn't pleasant. Don't get me started about why it's at the beginning of October, not the end. They closed off the whole friggin' town with no way to get in, I had groceries in the back seat and had to stay out for 45 minutes before I could get back to my place. I fully plan on going to the municipal building on Monday to express my extreme displeasure for being kept away from my house with perishable groceries in the car.
