Indian priest passes kidney stone. Mother Theresa in line for sainthood.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20071006/wl_time/motherteresaandthekidneystone

This week the Catholic News Service reported that the cause for the canonization of Mother Teresa could "cross its last hurdle" if the Vatican validated a cure reported by a priest in Guwahati, India on Sept. 5, the 10th anniversary of the beloved nun's death. The cure in question, originally reported by the Asian Catholic news agency UCA News, was described as "the disappearance of a half-inch kidney stone in his lower ureter."

Here is the timetable of the miracle, as provided to UCA News by the Archbishop of Guwahati , Thomas Menamparampil: The priest, Fr. V.M. Thomas, suffered several months with the stone, and had taken medications to no avail. Most kidney stones can be removed surgically, however, in what is often an outpatient procedure. Indeed, Fr. Thomas had scheduled a surgery for September 6 and entered the hospital for prep on the 5th. However, he reportedly asked and received permission to leave the hospital and celebrate a Mass at a children's home founded by Teresa. At the Mass he asked participants to pray to her on his behalf.

I hope this doesn't make the other saints pissed off. In the old days you had to cure cancer, or at least leprosy to become a saint. It seems that the standards are becoming pretty leaky.

I'm against it. I think it's a piss poor approach. I realize that kidney stones are painful, but hey, so is a bad cough that leads to a sore throat. It seems to me that we're on the slippery slope where you can become a saint just by curing stomach flu.

1. The Taj Mahal is also one of the new 7 wonders of the world...
Compared to that big ugly brick fence built by slave labor in China, or those dirty pyramid things, or even that Stonehenge place that's 4000 years old and nobody figured out how they could lift a bunch of heavy stone blocks, now we know what is truly deserving: A 400 year old building that looks like a glorified church.

Granted, it is majestic looking, but it doesn't have quite the historical awe typically accorded a big wondrous thing.

What next, Archie Bunker's chair given the same status?!

4. Isn't that... not atypical for kidney stones?

Like, "I had a broken arm and they put it in a cast and I prayed to Mother Theresa and when they took the cast off the arm wasn't broken anymore?" sort of not atypical?

6. Dang, the church has low standards anymore.
What's next? "I had horrible gas pain but I prayed to Mother Theresa and then cut one and it went away. It's a miracle!"

There'll be a bumper crop of this stupid shit to get JP2 sainted as well no doubt.

11. I don't understand it either.
I prayed to Saint Christopher to cure my Athelete's foot.

He was better than Tinactin, and didn't cost nearly as much.

He also cured my painful corns and ingrown toenails. Personally, I think his unsainting was part of a conspiracy by the criminal satanic Board of Directors at Dr. Scholl's.
