My state is pure West Coast blue, but my job could not be more red. However, just this week a co-worker (who I knew was a least not a Bush supporter) saw me looking at Huffington Post during break and commented that he likes the site too. I was ecstatic, feeling not so isolated for a change.

Not only that, I'm the only punk rock fan for miles and miles to boot. I'm not the only lesbian around my hometown, but I'm the only progressive/non-racist one I've met here. It sucks being me. It sucks living here. I hate the mentality in red states. I don't care what anyone says. There is no silver lining, just a big angry red cloud constantly raining on my parade.
If they ever had a "domestic exchange program" where we could get affordable prices and a chance to move to a blue state without having to start completely over again, I'd jump at that chance to fast, heads would spin. If I had my pick, I'd be in California by sunup.
Rural NC sucks. x(

7. The only liberal in this part of my state. |

The panhandle of Florida is extremely conservative and red. That's one of the reasons I enjoy this place, because in the real world I don't have many people to discuss politics with.

But I really do respect you folks in deep red territory. It must be really hard for you. Keep carrying on and fighting the good fight.

...well, except for my parents. (My little brother works with a hardcore Repub so he's espoused a lot of those views. :() I have one or two friends at home who are more liberal than conservative, but you don't dare "come out" about it in the part of VA where I live. :scared: Most people are pretty decent, but it's amazing how many "pro-life," "God-fearing" conservatives wouldn't hesitate to slash tires &/or leave abusive messages on a car with "liberal" bumper stickers, or even make death threats against the owner. I don't know if this is just a "conservative" thing, or if it happens the other way around in predominantly liberal areas...anyone have any experience with that?

I still live with my parents, who are also Democrats. But Montgomery County, PA has its share of ignorance and Repukes. It's just not as bad as Lancaster and Berks counties. There are more "moderate" Repukes here.
