I had a high thyroid reading |
|
They said that I shouldn't be concerned for now but will have to come back in 8 weeks to have more blood drawn. I think that it is sort of strange because last time I had that test, 5 months ago, I was in the low normal range. Of course at that point, I had an intestinal illness and no appetitie for over a month and lost 15 pounds. Perhaps, my body naturaully decreased my metabolism. Since getting better, I had not regained weight except 6 pounds this month. I have not been walking much due to the cold and have been extremely hungry. I have some of the hyperthyroid symptoms such as fatigue, which I thought was due to winter blues, and anxiety although I havean anxiety disorder and have had increased stress causing events these past few months. I take a beta blocker so that is probably keeping my heart rate and blood pressure in check. Can increases in thyroid hormones be stressed induced, even instnataneously? I passed out during the blood drawing. Since I gained weight could increasedd thyroid hormone be an attempt for my body to stop gaining weight in response to my decreased activity and increased eating? Perhaps since I didn't gain weight though after my illness, my thyroid hormone levels have been high since recovery. Should I eat or not when I am hungry? Should I sleep when I am tired? I want to be normal again.

But my doctor is a thyroid specialist. PM me if you like I can give you his number... not sure what he can do for you over the phone but hopefully he could at least answer some of your questions.

2. Go to a thyroid specialist |
|
I am on synthroid to keep my thyroid in check..I had Graves syndrome when I was 12, and have Hashimotos syndrome now..basically, my thyroid stopped working.. Im 52 now, I knew my thyroid was fucked up again when I started gaining weight and brittle hair and tiredness occured.. Now Ive lost the weight, and am normal. This has made me normal again..remember, the thyroid gland is part of the adrenal system...a complete and thorough exam of the whole system is required.. Please go to a specialist...a regular doctor often doesnt know his/her ass from a hole in the ground concerning the adrenal system. Yes, and stress DOES affect the adrenal system.

3. But instantaneous stress from a needle poke |

won't throw off your hormone reading. Something's going on; hard to say what, but get thee to a specialist. Your doc should be checking not only TSH, byt free T3/T4 and she should check the antibody levels as well, to see if you have Hashimoto's. (all this advice is to the original poster, by the way).
