Wedding first dance song?
What was yours? (Or what do you want it to be?)

I think my fiance and i have finally decided on "Is This Love" by Bob Marley -- because we'll be on a beach, and we're informal types. :-) I finally convinced him that it's a RHETORICAL question -- of course it's love!

3. I'm a fan of "Moondance" myself.
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 09:40 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
Especially if I'm married--if I'm ever married at all, of course--in October: Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance/with the stars up above in your eyes/A fantabulous night to make romance/'neath the cover of October skies...

Some good classic jazz would also work, though, like "Prelude to a Kiss" or even some standards like "My One and Only Love" (instrumental version, since the words are so heinously cheesy).

And if an upbeat dance is possible, please put me down as considering "Beginnings" by Chicago. :D

10. Attics of My Life - Grateful Dead
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia

In the attics of my life
Full of cloudy dreams unreal
Full of tastes no tongue can know
And lights no eye can see
When there was no ear to hear
You sang to me

I have spent my life
Seeking all that's still unsung
Bent my ear to hear the tune
And closed my eyes to see
When there were no strings to play
You played to me

In the book of love's own dreams
Where all the print is blood
Where all the pages are my days
And all my lights grow old

When I had no wings to fly
You flew to me
You flew to me

In the secret space of dreams
Where I dreaming lay amazed
When the secrets all are told
And the petals all unfold
When there was no dream of mine
You dreamed of me

49. Sinatra works.
My favorite version is by Fred Astaire sung to Ginger Rogers.

Someday,
When I'm awfully low
And the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight.

Yes, you're lovely
With your smile so warm
And your cheek so soft.
There is nothing for me but to love you
Just the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart.
And that smile that wrinkles your nose,
Touches my foolish heart.

Lovely,
Never, never change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it, 'cause I love you
Just the way you look tonight--
Just the way you look tonight.

32. Mine was "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed...
Yes, the subject matter makes it an odd choice. Our take was that if any our guests were hip enough to know the song and it's source then they obviously would get our relative wink-wink approach to our selection. Those that had no idea thought it was just a pretty song.

33. We danced to "A Song For You", by Donny Hathaway
:loveya:

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

37. Seriously, though - no, I wouldn't dance to a "song". We'd probably do a waltz,
perhaps something by Mozart or Strauss.

But then I'm of the whole "DJs at a wedding reception are an abomination" mindset, and we don't need to get into that here.

40. I Will Be Here - Stephen Curtis Chapman
Tomorrow mornin' if you wake up
And the sun does not appear
I...I will be here

If in the dark we lose sight of love
Hold my hand and have no fear
'Cause I...I will be here

I will be here...
When you feel like bein' quiet
When you need to speak your mind
I will listen
And I will be here
When the laughter turns to cryin'
Through the winnin' and
losin' and tryin'
We'll be together
'Cause I will be here

Tomorrow mornin' if you wake up
And the future is unclear
I...I'll be here

Just as sure as seasons
are made for change
Our lifetimes are made for years
I...I will be here

I will be here....
You can cry on my shoulder
When the mirror tells us we're older
I will hold you
< Lyrics provided by www.mp3lyrics.org >

And I will be here
To watch you grow in beauty
And tell you all the
things you are to me
I will be here

I will be true
To the promise I have made
To you and to the
One who gave you to me

I...I will be here

And just as sure as seasons
are made for change
Our lifetimes are made for years
'Cause I...
I will be here....
We'll be together

'Cause I will be here

When I got remarried, it was just a small ceremony with a justice of the peace, so we didn't have any formal reception and dance.

The song from the film was performed by Pat Benatar and it was beautiful. We gave a tape and the sheet music to the band we hired and foolishly thought they would try to emulate it. I was horrified as they turned it into a power ballad, all through the dance I just kept saying, "I don't even recognize this song!"

Fortunately we were able to overdub it on the video with the real thing.

Me and my best friend have a deal to sing this at each others weddings. Since I am close to getting that all too important piece of jewelry he will have to first.

If you dont know what I'm talking about, google the movie and look at the songs, its a good version, he just says fuck a couple of times at the right spots, makes the song a bit edgier. If I ever get to do it I will and it will be hilarious.
