13. John Sterling, hack Yankee homer announcer
Is one of the worst in the biz. He ranks down there with Ted Leitner of the Pads, Miks Shannon of St. Louis, John Rooney of the Phils, and Milo Hamilton of the Astros.

Ron Santo with the Cubs gets a pass because he's such an obvious homer, he's actually entertaining in a perverted way....

14. Did you ever hear him and Susan Coen(spelling) describe Roger Clemens return?
:eyes:
You would've thought George Steinbrenner brought back Christ himself, "THIS IS THE MOST DRAMATIC THING I'VE EVER SEEN HAPPEN IN YANKEE STADIUM!!" Oh Jesus Fuckin' Christ your telling me the 26 World Series Championships and Louy Gehrig announcing his retirement, and alluding to his eventual demise as well, wasn't more dramatic than that?

15. I think her last name is Waldman.
Did you hear her cry during the post game show? I was streaming WCBS and about three minutes in the water works started! I think the link is still active.

18. I caught part of the WCBS pre-game
Waldman wouldn't say "Clemens" or even "Roger." Every reference she made to him was "Roger Clemens." I got the feeling she equated it with saying "Jesus Christ."

19. Oh, yeah
WEEI-AM, the Boston sports radio station, has been having a field day with this clip all summer (at one point they spliced it into Meg Ryan's scene in "When Harry Met Sally"). You can never have too much fun at a Yankee fan's expense!

17. Nobody — NOBODY is worse than Leitner
Not only is he a homer, he's a fucking hypocrite about it, with his "my Padres" when they win and "your Padres" when they lose. I could let that slide that as schtick, but his delivery is the worst I can imagine. He calls a ball game like he's trying to sell used cars.

It got to the point that when the Dodgers were playing in San Diego, I wouldn't listen. (XM radio carries only the home club's broadcast.)

Milo Hamilton must be one of the most over-rated announcers of all time. He had the opportunity for one of the greatest calls in history — Aaron's 715th — and had all the time in the world to prepare for it, and he tanked it. Vin Scully would've made poetry of it, but Hamilton made it sound like a morning rah-rah meeting at Wal-Mart. (Curt Gowdy, on NBC, screwed the pooch as well.)

You're right about Santo, too. Anyone who's lived through a great career with the hapless Cubs and then lost body parts to diabetes gets a pass on a lot of things. He's entitled to be a homer, and he isn't just entertaining, he's endearing.
