How's that giant payroll working out now????

This team has been doomed to first round exits ever since they let Soriano go....

where he was listening on the radio when DiMaggio got that big hit, and how he went out to sell papers in the street the next day and the evening headline was 'DiMaggio Strikes Again... Newspapers Five Cents!'"

I hope that keeps 'em warm while I'll be hot for the Rox and the Sox. A-yup.

22. See, that's the great thing about sports
You can live in the past, dreaming of increasingly faded glory, or you can live in the present, there is a reason why no one ever says 'wait till last year'

44. My thing is that sport is about change
The people change, the game stays the same. These yankees (and torre included) had some spectacular years, but today they are only good enough to get the wildcard and lose (as they have proven for the past three years) they aren't getting any closer to the promised land they once found with such ease, so it's time to blow them up, change the team and try again. Or, they could live off past laurels for another couple of years and then change. Being resistant to change is the death knell for sports teams.

23. How is it that they were so great in those 4 years, and not so great in the past 7?
All things come in cycles. Perhaps your cycle's finally hit rock bottom, and you'll be getting better in the next few years. Or maybe the Yanks have just gone the way of the Dutch navy.

45. If i knew exactly why they were so great
I would be much wealthier. They had the x factor those years, that certain winning kick that others simply didn't have. You mix the right combination of personality, talent, drive, skill and luck and you get a dynasty. mix it slightly wrong, and you are the Cubs; great on paper, capable of making great runs, but unable to win when it really mattered.

17. Yankees payroll went down in 2007

Rank Team 2007 Payroll 2006 Payroll Change
1 Yankees $195,229,045 $198,662,180 $(3,433,135)
2 Red Sox $143,526,214 $120,100,524 $23,425,690
3 Mets $117,915,819 $100,901,085 $17,014,734
4 White Sox$109,680,167 $102,875,667 $6,804,500
5 Angels $109,251,333 $103,625,333 $5,626,000
6 Dodgers $108,704,524 $99,176,950 $9,527,574
7 Mariners $106,516,833 $88,324,500 $18,192,333
8 Cubs $99,937,000 $94,841,167 $5,095,833
9 Tigers $95,180,369 $82,302,069 $12,878,300
10 Orioles $95,107,807 $72,585,713 $22,522,094

Make fun of the Mets or the White Sox or the Dodgers or the Mariners or the Tigers or the Orioles. They spent a craptacular amount of money on payroll and didn't even make it to the playoffs.

team and then go on to bash another sports team?

Here's something to cheer you up:

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

I said that IS WHY it is played - 2 very different things. Now do you want to take this to the next level and accuse me of being a freeper or do you just want to fight because I'm a Yankee fan.

The choice is yours.

40. Alright, I went back and read your post and you
did not say it should be played, you said the reason it's played is because of 9/11.

So I apologize for that.

However, I still believe it should not be played at baseball games.

The next thing you know, we'll be reciting the pledge of allegiance during a pitching change.
