1. Joe Torre is a class act!
Steinbrenner is an idiot for even considering firing Torre.

2. I second that. Joe IS a class act, and has brought the Yankees to
the playoffs many times.

Steinbrenner is out of his mind to want to let Joe go.

3. A pretty good manager, but he blew it starting Wang tonight.
But then he didn't have much pitching this year, did he? You knew it was bad when they signed Clemens for crying out loud.

4. Steinbrenner publicly announcing that he was going to fire Torre was SO unclassy.
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 11:05 PM by asthmaticeog
Even Donald Trump has more class than that fucking vulgarian. Torre's genuinely one of the greats. Steinbrenner? Nothing more than a clod with a fuckload of cash.

18. But Torre is one of the primary reasons I LIKE the Yankees.
IF Steinbrenner fires Joe, I hope the Yankees never win another game. Ever.

10. Cheer up your going to get Tony La Russa,
Torre worked for the Cards before he worked for the Yankees.

11. I bet LaRussa will follow Jocketty or retire.
He hates the media in St. Louis. I can't imagine what he'd do in New York.

28. Fine by me
My fear is that the Evil Empire hires a smart, young proven winner like Joe Girardi. He did a great job with the talent-thin Marlins, and as a Sox fan, it scares me to think what he could do with the Yankees resources.

22. Billy Martin would be far more controllable by Steinbrenner, now that he is long dead!

Don't have to worry about his drinking problem and womanizing anymore.

26. True
If Steinbrenner did that, he would have no choice but to lay the blame for the losing in the playoffs squarely where it belongs, on himself.

21. Not for nothing
I am a die hard Redsox fan, but I have the up most respect for Joe....they don't get any better. The problem is Big George...he made a HUGE blunder paying Clemens that kind of money to come back to do what??? Biggest error George has made $$ wise in one hell of a long time and he is angry at himself and taking it out on Joe. Joe has a Hall of Fame record and he should be proud!

Now, that being said...Go Sox!

29. I watched the Bronx's is burning this summer
and you would have thought that Steinbrenner would have watched that series so he could remember what a jackass he looked like for years.
If he does this, he still hasn't grown up.

30. Steinbrenner is such an asshole -- I can't stand that prick.
Way to go, George. Announce that you're going to fire the manager if the team doesn't win.

I'm not a Yankees fan, but Torre deserves better than that.
