Idol Star Aiken Caught Up In Church Gay Controversy
Oct 7, 2007 - World Entertainment News Network

American Idol star Clay Aiken is caught up in another gay controversy after parishioners at a church where he is set to perform a Christmas concert demanded assurances the singer isn't a homosexual.
Aiken's sexuality hit the headlines last year when a former Green Beret soldier revealed he had spent a night of passion with the crooner, but Aiken refused to discuss the issue when it came up in interviews.
Then, fans threatened to file a class action suit against the singer if it was proven he was gay.
And now, elders at a Wichita, Kansas church want to make sure the singer is heterosexual before green-lighting plans for him to perform for their congregation on November 26th.
The Central Christian Church controversy reached a fever pitch shortly after the performance was announced, and the executive pastor Mark Posson felt compelled to send a letter to concerned elders.
A source tells the National Enquirer, "Pastor Posson thought it was in the church's best interest to circulate a letter."
In the note, the pastor avoided the gay issue, declaring Aiken was a Christian who didn't "drink, smoke, swear or womanise".
The clergyman also recalled interviews Aiken gave to Rolling Stone magazine and an internet site, in which he stated he was not gay.
Posson also incorrectly declared the Green Beret, who claimed to have spent the night with Aiken in a hotel, later recanted his story, explaining he was encouraged to "scandalise the singer" by so-called Aiken haters. In fact, the soldier, John Paulus, has never gone back on his story - and passed a lie detector test when he took his story to the Enquirer.
As Wenn went to press, the Aiken concert at Central Christian Church is still scheduled.

Uh, DESPITE the words to the songs, ladies, there was no contractual promise to be straight with you. LOL

"He made me all tingly, and if he's GAY, then what does that make ME?" said the lead plaintiff, Heather McClueless. :sarcasm:

the only die-hard christian uber-fan of his I know happens to be named Heather... :P

Not sure what her last name is, but from what I've seen of her, I wouldn't be surprised...

7. The idea that people would file a class action suit
because of his sexual orientation really depresses me. I guess that's what happens when you team up an evil lawyer with a huge group of fanatical christian homophobes. That's just sad.

16. Who would Jesus sue?
Perhaps he should offer to make a deal with these people. He will prove that he is not gay (assuming that he is not gay) if they will prove that they actually follow Christ's teachings.

Clay Aiken... It's obvious.

And, if Clay Aiken isn't gay... then I am the Pope.... Besides his name rhymes with gay... That means it has to be true.

Actually, out here, the Clay Aiken Fan Club consists not of uber-Christians but of lonely fortysomething women who wish to adopt Our Man Clay. Before he performed out here, these women would fly to the mainland to see him in concert. :scared:

edit: spelling

15. I'm not a Clay Aiken fan, but if I were Clay, I'd tell the congregants of that church:
"If you can't be satisfied with 'It's none of your damn business', then I don't want to sing at your church."

And the whole class-action suit thing? :puke:

21. This is a bullshit story
The guy who claimed he had sex with Clay - a claim he has since rescinded, then reclaimed, then rescinded, then reclaimed - is the one pushing this nonsense along with some former fans who hate Clay because they believe he's gay and has a duty to come out of the closet.

There was another situation very similar to this one last year. Clay was supposed to sing at some event called the Pure Fashion Show - he was asked by David Foster - and these same "fans" wrote the people doing the event and told them about the rumors swirling around Clay at the time. The event planners took Clay off the show because they couldn't find anything on the internet where Clay or his representatives denied the allegations.

23. No
The Pure Fashion thing was last year. It's some sort of Catholic-based organization which is about young girls not wearing provocative clothing. FWIW, from what I gather, the clothes aren't "Little House on the Prairie" knockoffs - they just don't feature extremely short skirts, bare midriffs or plunging necklines.

Songwriter/producer David Foster got involved with it and asked Clay to perform.

From someone who has been involved with this mess from the very beginning this is all a lie. Clay is Nothing like that at all. The guy who said this about Clay is a nut, just read his blog.He admitted he did it all to be in a porno film, then changed it 50 times. He is a right wing fundie, not Clay.
