9. I could not harm her if she distroyed every plant I own
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 12:06 PM by JitterbugPerfume
sorry to hear about your Kitty , soleft . Tans is getting old , and I dread the day that I lose her.

when I found her (she was a stray) I just did not have the heart to have her de-clawed . I think it is a barbaric practice. I expected some distruction of personal property, plus she has drawn blood on my body sevderal times .

I do not regret letting her keep her claws .

14. I knew you weren't serious. I haven't really processed Clark's demise
I guess I just wanted to post it somewhere.

I didn't declaw any of our cats. Two of them stopped using the litter box and went to live on my boss's farm. I thought having their claws would help them, but apparently one of them may have fallen victim to a predator. My boss hasn't told me that yet but I think I overheard him telling someone he had a predator on his farm, and then he lowered his voice. The other cat is now living in his wife's office.

The cat that remains with us in the city has damaged my ex's furniture. That's where all the cats were living, I couldn't take them with me when I moved out because my girlfriend is very allergic.

So I thought I'd get into the habit of clipping Beamer's nails to minimize the damage, because like you I couldn't bring myself to get them declawed. But he's not having any of it. WHen I took him to the vet, she showed me what to do and we did it together and it worked okay. But now as soon as I squeeze his little paw to protrude the nail, he yanks it back.

I guess the next step is hiring a pro to come in and do it. Or just keep working with him and hope eventually he'll chill and let me do it.

15. do it when they are real relaxed or asleep - might take a couple days
but you can usually get at least two nails done each time - also handle and squeeze toes often, even when you aren't clipping.

10. I have lots of housplant around the house but I am NOT ALLOWED to have one
on the sink in the bathroom (need it to disguise a crack in the porcelain). Those seem to be deemed edible or at least chewable and none of the others get touched. Doesn't matter what kind, if I put it on the sink it's chew time.

17. I plant barley in a pot for her in the winter and she can get grass in the yard
it is just the sink that seems to stimulate houseplant chewing. (She isn't even supposed to be up there, but it is a cat we are talking about.

18. put the barley plant on the sink
covers the spot you want to hide, and give the cat something to chew over as she contemplates why you want to hide a spot...

19. In the 1970s my mother's cat declared war on the Xmas Cactus.
Kitty almost succeeded in total victory too. At one point it was down to two sections. Now the plant is gigantic.

20. Cats need plant material once in awhile
One of mine ate a cactus. I had noticed she seemed a bit 'off' for a few days, then she ate a cactus and she was fine the day after.

Cactus contains some sort of curative thing. My ex-partner used to eat them sliced up.
