I was picked for a jury recently.
The guy ended up pleading guilty, so it won't end up going to trial now, but I want to post a link to the story. Anyone know if that's kosher?

3. It's in the public records so go ahead
I've never been called in over 25 years. Yesterday I had to take my mom downtown because she was called but wasn't needed.

4. I have to call in on Friday afternoon
To see if I need to go in for jury duty.

I swear I get summoned for jury duty at least once a year. This is the first time I don't have the child care excuse.

:(

I don't mind serving, but it's going to mess up my classes and getting kids off the bus.

I would have come across it with an open mind, but apparently the evidence was overwhelming. After picked, they told us the trial would last 2-3 weeks. Then two days later, he pleaded guilty (sort of).

7. Would have been an interesting trial
certainly high profile.

you're certainly not guaranteed of being selected, though.

8. I was picked for it.
Interviewed by both sets of attorneys. It just didn't happen due to the plea.

9. as a juror you may not have seen all the evidence
a good defense will get as much blocked as they can. Sometimes the press and court observers see and hear more than the jury - one of the reasons you aren't supposed to talk or read about cases. The law is based on the jury deciding based on the evidence presented to them.

10. That's why I posted this a couple of weeks after the fact.
I didn't know much about it other than hearing about it passing and it's a done at this point. I'd never talk about it if I was still serving or it was going to trial. I didn't even tell my husband when I thought it was going to trial until it was over and he made the plea.

6. Why not?
I think Connecticut uses the "1 day, 1 trial" method of jury selection, so if the trial is settled, you won't be going to jury duty. If something changes, they'd likely have to go through the whole process again.

11. Is Orthodox Judaism involved?
If not, then what difference does it make if it's kosher?
