My gums and jaw are sore - what should I do? |
|
I had deep cleaning work done on my gums this last month. The hygienist injected Novocaine into my jaw and really cleaned out the pockets between my gums and my teeth. My gums are now a pleasant pink color, and I have been brushing and flossing like my mama taught me.
But right now my gums are sore... my teeth hurt as if I'm wearing braces. Is there anything I can do? :P

4. Maybe I should shoot heroin straight into my mouth? |
|
 But seriously, I have a crowded mouth with a long tongue thrust. I wish I could bite into a block of softened wax.

9. Been there, done that. |

HOW long ago? Jeez, I'm usually OK in a few days, but it takes a while for the gums to tighten up again.
Try rinsing with a combination of hydrogen peroxide and Listermint, or your favorite mouthwash. It'll help the healing. I have periodontal disease and use it daily. Helps kill the bad bacteria.
I also cleanse my oral cavity with repeated liberal (what else?) doses of Scotch whiskey every evening. ;-)

10. The second half was completed last week. I washed with Listerine last night... |
|
but my mouth feels like it's enduring advanced plate tectonics. Are my teeth on the move? Should I attach myself to a seismograph to keep track of it?

11. You need peroxide too. |

Yes, in effect you gums have been 'loosened'. So now your teeth feel kinda loose. It will all tighten back up. But how long ago was this?

17. That requires... a different set of muscles. |

But with a little more of this brandy, I might be exercising those, too.

if you don't want to/can't drink, swish warm salt water around in your mouth for about 30 secs at a time, no less than 10X each. That should help. Not as fun as drinking but, IMVHO, more effective.

Usually available at any drug store. Commonly goes by "Oral Anesthetic".
Get the stuff with the highest amount of benzocaine and apply it to your gums.

Unfortunately, no cocaine-like rush and feeling like you are a god on Mount Olympus :)
But it will kill the pain.
I think it's synthesized cocaine.
