I have interviewed individuals who claimed, and in my opinion believed, that they were victims of ritual satanic abuse or some other form of organized psychological torture, including torture by governmental agencies. Whether they are delusional or not is not for me to say.
But I hope others contribute to this thread who have personal experience.

I honestly don't know. There is some research out there on CIA projects like Monarch Butterfly which would have affected people her age (and she is about my age), but despite the successful lawsuits and admissions by Canadian and U.S. intelligence agencies that such projects existed, it is so hard to believe that they truly did.
By the same token, she exhibited symtoms of delusional disorder, but it's impossible to say what is the cause of what symptom.

4. yeah i knew someone who had the therapist induced memories of satanic abuse |

she was able to recover her sanity and check thru independent sources that her "recovered memories" were not real and she was able to reconcile with her family and esp. her mom, who she had wrongly accused
but it was a terrible few years there for her and her family when she believed it was true
the therapist in question, my friend learned that "everyone" who went to that therapist ended up being dx'd w. multiple personality syndrome -- it was the fad thing then -- fortunately that therapist is no longer in business -- the memories were being induced somehow with hypnosis/regression (this was the 80s, as you can probably guess)

7. i don't even think the therapist was malicious, just incompetent |
|
we now know that hypnosis/suggestion can create memories of things that never happened esp. if questions are poorly phrased BUT many people in that era did not realize that the memories you recovered by hypnosis could be false, hence the great interest in recovered memories of UFO abductions from the same era
i was actually quite involved in the UFO thing, i wasn't hypnotizing people, but i was hanging out in that circle and looking for the space brothers -- but after a time i had to accept that whatever was happening, real as it might feel, was only real in a subjective sense and not real in a consensus reality sense

9. I had two friends who went to a shrink like this. |
|
Everyone he treated was dx'd with mpd. He lost his privileges at one of the hospitals in town, but was still in practice. He did some real harm to a lot of people. That was a good 10 years ago. And he's still in practice.

It was way more casual than that.
I mean, really. They painted their pentagrams with store-bought acrylic, for goat's sake!
