Yet another puerco-bellies picture thread from last Sunday.
Alison and I invited a couple from Ali's work to kayak with us launching from Cabrillo Beach to White's Point two and a half miles to the North. This would be the first time our friends paddled out, and they did quiet well. When we got to Cabrillo we met up with some other kayakers invited for a social paddle by Extreamline sports (http://www.xstreamline.com/kayak/index.html) and we all headed off together.

Our friends paddling around Point Ferman.

Our group beached on Whites Point for lunch and a bit of snorkeling in the now cold water.

Most of us posed for this picture while exploring the tide pools. We had tried snorkeling earlier but Ali and me got instant ice-cream headaches from the rapidly cooling So. Cal water.

On the way home me and Ali did a little "rock gardening" and got caught and rolled by a wave in the middle of some partially exposed off shore rocks. This was the first time we had an unscheduled exit other then surf launch and landings. We have drilled and practiced for a "self rescue" and we pulled it off quickly, and were back in our yak before the next set of waves came.

Me and Ali after a inexplicably wet landing.

Our friends on their glass smooth flawless surflanding

Our babies and gear washed down, drying out, and ready for the next paddle.

10. Kayaking is really the best way to view scenery from the water
We have only ocean kayaked but will be trying slower moving rivers, and of course interesting lakes at some point.

BTW: This is a connecting cave on Anacapa Island that we literally limboed out of just before the picture was taken. Sea caving is such a rush.

17. The sea cave photo is by a kodak waterproof/sports disposable camera.
We also pack disposable cameras in what are know as "dry bags". We are going to buy a decent waterproof digital in the future but there is only so much money to go around.

11. It was a very nice day indeed.
I hate gyms, but need the exercise. Kayaking is a great low impact (mostly :-) ) way to work out. Plus you have the advantage of being in close contact with nature at the same time. If you ever get a chance try it!

12. It is quite fun.
Lisa (my sweety's co-workers wife) would get nervous at times which is normal and probably a symptom of sanity, but they are both willing to go with us again.

15. Thanks, and yes we are having fun.
It is not so brave to paddle out in calm weather. We have an extra yak and Kings Harbor is only ten minutes from both our houses. Why don't you and your hubby paddle around the marina and see what it is like. The purple kayak is a Salish and the most stable kayak we have ever been in. You could not tip over on accident or even on mistake under almost any circumstance other then standing up and leaning over the side. There is a small floating dock behind "Mother's Beach" play area which is the safest possible place to launch and land, what say you?

19. Find a paddle buddy and you can use our extra yak.
We try to get out as often as we can. What we lack is people to paddle with. IM me and I will give you contact info and e-mail you before the next time we go out.
BTW: Very cool, interesting website. I used to live off 4th and Lorena years ago.

22. Hmmmmm.. Good idea.
Spring or Fall would be the best weather for a yak-a-thon. I will do a little research on group rentals and in spring will post the suggestion with total costs.

This will be the best DU Meet-up ever!!!
