The Goonies star Sean Astin says sequel is 'certainty'

SEAN Astin says The Goonies sequel is "an absolute certainty".

The 36-year-old actor, who was 13 when he played Mikey Walsh in the original, claims an animated follow up to the hit 80s family film is definitely in the pipeline and he would love to get involved.

Astin said in MTV movie blog: "The writing's on the wall when they're releasing the DVD of the original in such numbers. I think a sequel is an absolute certainty.

"I would love to be in it. I remain as open-minded and willing to participate as I have ever been."

The Goonies director Richard Donner is believed to be interested in taking the helm for the sequel, with Steven Spielberg once again creating the story and working as an executive producer.

1. No! They can't touch the Goonies!
It won't have Cyndi Lauper on the soundtrack.
It will never measure up.

4. Goonies might just be the best movie ever.

It played in the town I was living in about 7 years ago, and it was great to see people who had grown up with the film taking their kids. :D

7. I will always love it!
It's one of the few movies I will tolerate watching more than once.

5. Why are you so certain Cindy Lauper
won't be on the soundtrack?

8. Tell her that...what's happening with her career?
She'd probably leap at the opportunity to participate.

Come to think of it though, they might get Hillary Duff instread. You're right.

3. Oh, goodie...
Are they going to do a sequel to "ET" now, too?

And the Goonie's story was self-contained! Where are they going to go with this?

The Coast Guard boards the pirate ship and takes it into tow as a hazard to navigation? The kid's parents buy McMansions on the Pacific Coast?
