Omar the very fine cat, RIP
Please humor me while I pay tribute to a very fine cat who peacefully left this world today.
One night 15 years ago I came home from work to find a little black tom cat sitting on my front porch. Being a lover of cats I talked to him and, I'm totally not making this up, he jumped from the porch up into my arms. I fell in love. Calls to the shelter and a sign in the local market revealed no owners for this affectionate little guy but my ex refused to take in another cat. Fortunately, my father realized this was an exceptional cat, took him in and dubbed him Omar. Omar was an un-neutered male and liked tomming around and even after undergoing the indignity of losing his berries he still continued to cavort with the occasional stuffed animal and had a fondness for sneaking outside to cruise for girls. Five years ago Omar went on a bender and went missing for a couple of weeks. During this time my mom had a major heart attack -- amongst her first words after coming out of the coma "Did Omar come back?" We lied and said yes but he made good on our word and by the time my mom got out of the hospital he had, indeed, come back home. My dad died the following spring and today Omar joined him. I don't know if there's anything on the other side but last night I knew in my heart that the end was near for him, I held his frail old body and I whispered into his ear that if there is he should tell my dad I loved him. He was at times a horny naughty little shit but he was an amazing cat. I will never forget him.

Thank you for allowing me this rambling tribute.

2. (((hug)))
One of my cats is at the vet today for a minor ear infection, but the apartment feels so empty and lonely with one of them missing. I can't imagine if she were never going to come back.

I normally hide these threads because I always cry, but well...I am sorry for your loss. You saved him and gave him a good life full of love, and that's all that any of us can ask for.

(((hugs))) again

6. 'Till you meet again ...
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

19. for Omar
Dear God, you have given us care over all living things; protect and bless the animals who give us companionship and delight, make us their true friends and worthy companions. Amen.

Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all evil from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.
--Albert Schweitzer, "Memoirs of Childhood and Youth"

Eternal Spirit, we bring you our grief in the loss of Omar and ask for courage to bear it. We bring you our thanks for Omar who lived among us and gave us freely of his love. We commit our friend and companion Omar into your loving hands. Give us eyes to see how your love embraces all creatures and every living thing speaks to us of your love. Amen.

38. Lovely tribute to a beloved member of your family
No need to ask anyone's indulgence.

Hey, they are part of the family we build in life. Their passing is a big hit. They leave big holes in our lives when they take their leave.

And I do think there is something beyond this physical existence. An old cat sure gave me much reason to believe.

Here's an oldy that may be some comfort to you

41. A little poem on Angel Cats
Angel Cats

Some say that "Angel cats are just pretend
Just sorrows that will never mend"
But if I believe that, I'm untrue
To someone who loved me and you.
For I have felt my cat's sweet weight
As she cuddles into bed so late
And heard her purrs, and felt her sigh
Mend my grief: sweet lullaby.
Faulty vision? I think not!
An angel cat, off like a shot
For that was how she ran while here:
Now plain sight, now disappear.
Angel cats are surely real
They stay in touch to help us heal
Their fur dries tears that wouldn’t dry
And as we mend, our spirits fly!
