If Al Gore is So Smart... Explain Joe Lieberman to Me....
Once again, tell me why? Why did he choose that horses ass as his running mate?

Don't get me wrong, I love Al Gore who was elected by a majority of the people but this is one thing that bugs the holy shit out of me.

1. I would also love to hear
his explanation of that. Maybe he had no idea that Lieberman was who he is.

14. It's an imaginary post...
so it gets a complex number.

Why do some posts not get numbered? I've seen that happen several times. Anyone know?

16. When two posts hit simultaneously, only one of them gets numbered.

3. I think Al got some bad advice during campaign 2000.
There were plenty of WTF moments during that campaign.

Joe was just one of them.

15. Eh....Lieberman's an opportunist.
If it'd been in his political best interest to turn into a hardcore liberal (say, as Gore's VP), he'd have done so. He's a cypher.

And it still would've been far, far better than the disaster we've endured the last seven years.

11. Lieberman was a critic of Bill. Helped Gore separate himself from
the Monica stuff.
It was not exactly Gore's smartest decision ever but we have to keep in mind that things were going pretty well back then and we actually had time to worry about Clinton's private issues.

18. Let's just say that under a Gore administration, the issues of the day would be different
I am willing to bet money that had Gore taken office, 9/11 would have been prevented, there would be no Iraq War, and our tax and spending priorities would be radically different.

Taking that into account, Joe's more disagreeable aspects would likely be more hidden.

Also, I would not discount Gore's personal, old-fashioned sensibilities regarding personal morality. Many accounts indicated that he was deeply offended by Bill's conduct and liked that commonality with Joe.

24. There's actually evidence to support your guesses
There was an airport security commission in 1998 or so that posited 57 separate recommendations to beef up security, several of which could have caught the hijackers (way before September 11, on their practice runs). Said commission was headed by (you guessed it) The Honorable Albert Gore, Jr.

The Republican Congress declined to fund these recommendations.

Not to mention that Richard Clarke would have still been on board.

And even if 9/11 had still happened, we'd be in Afghanistan for a brief time, Bin Laden would have been quickly caught, and you're right, we sure wouldn't be in Iraq.

Making someone VP is usually a good way of making them virtually disappear...
