Anybody here following the Rugby World Cup?
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 01:24 PM by ChavezSpeakstheTruth
Mad drama. This weekend will be interesting indeed.

I support the All Blacks. But since they're out and I love English football and the US doesn't really compete, I will pull for England.

Edit: my pesky grammar

2. Allez les Bleus!
Since I'm of French ancestry.

Are there any live TV broadcasts? They've shown a few games on VS.

6. Thing is, they haven't been starting with Chabal
so, while he looks the part, he's not such a great player that they feel they have to get maximum usage from him. Betsen is fit, and if he has a good game, that will be the key to the French pack becoming dominant, I reckon. Both the French and English overcame their southern hemisphere opponents by dominating the forward play last week, despite weaker backs. It'll be the battleground again, I think.

10. We've been trying to catch it, but we're haing a hard time...
It's on at weird times here, and its never consistent. At least with the men's world cup, they warn you when the next one is going to be one. The rugby matches are never live, and they are just showing them out of obligation. It's frustrating.
It has been fun watching France bitch slap everyone.

13. I've been following it...
...it's easier to follow when you're over here I guess.

The surprise teams of the tournament have been Argentina and Fiji (Argentina play South Africa in the other semi-final tomorrow) and tonight it's France and England. I don't think I'll be watching as there's a really good local ska band I want to see playing live tonight but I can say that both France and England are surprised and delighted to be in the semis having had to beat the All-Blacks and Australia respectively.

21. He's played all over the world but right now he's in Santa Monica
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 10:35 AM by Blue_In_AK
getting ready for the wedding. :) He's originally from South Africa by way of Australia. My daughter met him when he was playing with the Santa Monica team a couple of years ago. I think the story was that he was a friend of the coach and was playing with Santa Monica sort of for fun. I'll PM you his name and see if you know him. My daughter told me he had his picture on the cover of Rugby Magazine a while ago.

18. Definitely.
Saturday's game was nerve-wracking as hell - I didn't think England would make it as far as the semis never mind the final. We haven't played well since the last World Cup, we seem to have messed up every international (especially the 6 Nations) since we won last time around.

We could win, but with England one never knows in advance what will happen - we could be utterly crushed by the Boks (as happened in the pool) or we could win (though I doubt we could win easily).

The Pumas have had the real victory of the tournament - normally the quarters are filled proforma by the old 5 Nations plus the Tri-Nations from the south, but Argentina managed to make it into the semis.
