Anyone else have cats that "change places" when it cools off?
Edited on Sat Oct-13-07 03:23 PM by darkstar
Our skinny boy cat sleeps on the bed when it's warm while our slightly heavier girl cat sleeps on the floor near our bed.

But as with the last 6-7 seasonal changes, in the last few days the boy has found someplace warmer (corner of the couch) and the girl has begun to sleep on the foot of the bed. Come spring, it will all change back. All without fighting. It's like a timeshare or something....

1. my girls have started sleeping on me at night again
during the summer they sleep on the bed near me, but now that the nights are getting cold, they're sleeping on me

i've also noticed they're spending more time on my bed during the day as well

5. I hear that.
I sometimes just roll them up in the blankets so I can get out of bed. At night they play bookends and I lie there paralyzed. These are the winter positions. In the summer they are nowhere to be found.

9. Every once in a while
one of the bookends will get so irritated at my squirming, he or she will stalk off in a huff and find another roost for the rest of the night. Whew, then I can roll over at last. The remaining cat, of course, follows the rollover, and then I'm stuck in the new position.

10. and here I thought I was the only one
who becomes a "kitty sandwich" at night. Now thats it cooler they sleep pressed up agaisnt my legs- one on each side--in the winter...at least one will be under the covers and actually on top of me--one sudden move and I get accidently clawed by startled cats!!!:D

4. My brother's dog moves by the hour
He follows the sunlight from the skylight as it moves across the living room. Sometimes, he even moves his bed.

7. Do three accusatory expressions from the vicinity of the woodstove
translated collectively as "Make fire, dammit!" count?

In the summer our alpha male sleeps in the sunspot by the sliding glass door in the icky mudroom (still on the list for renovation), and the females fight over the open window at the top of the stairs (the runt can wedge her body into the gap between the screen and the sill like a hot dog in a bun).

In the winter, one female curls up in the bed blankets in MG Jr.'s room (because it's fleece), the male sleeps on the guest bed comforter, and the runt roasts herself under DH's desk lamp (left on all day) or on top of his computer monitor (ditto).

That is, unless the woodstove gets fired up. Then male and larger female duke it out over the straw basket in front of the fire; the loser ends up on top of the easy chair across the room. The runt stays under the lamp.

At night, the females yell at us till we are settled in bed where they can pin us till morning. I don't know where the male goes--I think on a shelf in the under-renovation dining room china cabinet. I've never seen a cat actually sleep on insulation...but he does. :eyes:
