Why I Live In San Diego - Picture thread - POST PICTURES OF YOUR HOME TOWN- DIAL UP WARNING!!!
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 10:49 AM by Gilligan
There are lots of reasons to live here - I have, throughout my life, spent many hours at Balboa Park. Over the summer, I took these photos at Balboa Park which is adjacent to our amazing San Diego Zoo - (The little girl is my daughter.)
Share pics of your home town and the places that make it special.

7. it be fucked up
it will be forever before they can fix that mess.... It is massive... It is on the eastern slope of Mt. Soledad so it is not the really expensive part of La Jolla.

Sorry about the fall - that is one terrible trail to get up and down.

29. Come on out here!
You have to earn a pile of money to buy in now but you can do it!!!!(if you quit eating and driving) It is very difficult to keep the faith when it comes to the cost of living here. We have thought of moving - Hawaii was less expensive when we looked into buying acres of land. I am, of course, talking about The Big Island. I wanted to move to hawaii so bad it hurt. My husband can not stand the idea of being that far away from something.. I don't know what but something.

I grew up with horses and it is nice to see a happy horse in a field.

I too love the organ pavilion. It is so nice to go there for a free concert and take a picnic and just be. My children have been so many times they just think of it as a normal thing to do.... They love the beaches here (as do I of course.)

The next time I am there and the organ is in view I will get some photos. I always have my camera.

33. Ya got that right. $600k for the median house price... $3 gal for gas... $90/mo water... etc.
I don't really think it's worth it, especially now with all the traffic and crowds, but 30 years ago it was a paradise.

61. You are a liitle off on the cost here
The median price is about $475,000 but gas is the highest in the nation - I know what you mean - I avoid the touristy places in the summer months - If I go to Balboa Park I know every little out of the way place where I can get a parking space. I know which areas to avoid and stay off the freeways taking surface streets - I can get almost everyplace in San Diego and never get on a freeway...

But there really is some kind of magic about it here. It isn't perfect - the traffic is a big bone of contention and the inability of drivers to drive. I too have seriously thought of moving when my husband retires in 2 years. I have looked into North Carolina - I really like the ocean.

I remember them saying on the local TV news in late 2005 that the median price was $602,000.

Even a 50-foot fall is bad enough. Maybe you could convince your wife to go to Zion instead? You're on the canyon floor, not up top as in the Grand Canyon.

It may change your mind too. I highly recommend a trip to the Grand Canyon - even if you do not hike and the wife goes for some shorter day hikes.

...the spirit and vision of the late Paul Tsongas is still going strong in the city, and his spouse Niki has just been elected to Congress! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

You can read all about Lowell's renaissance and future plans at this site: http://www.hamiltoncanal.com/

Lowell is FAR and AWAY a much different place than what many people remember if they haven't been around since the 90's.

Had a day of vacation this past Monday. Went over to Madtown to so some geneology research. Then it was lunch at the Union (pic 4), then relaxing on Bascom Hill (pic 3). Just lay on the soft grass and stare at the sky. "People watch" the students as they shuffle between classes. Finish reading my book. Wish I had my camera with me to get a shot of the scenery, the students, and the Capitol in the distance. Didn't realize it would have been put to use on a DU thread!

31. We live about
10 minutes from Hillcrest. We are very centrally located - We could walk to Qualcomm Stadium (via a back road and a trail) We can be at Seaworld in about 15 minutes (i'ts 10 miles from here.) Downtown, depending on traffic, is about 12 minutes from here - Balboa Park is adjacent to downtown. - It runs for many blocks along 6th Ave - on the west side and Park Blvd to the East.

1. You're very close to Yosemite, Sequoia and the Sierras.
2. You're also close to Big Sur, another spectacular place.
3. The cost of living in Fresno has to be lower than SF, LA, or SD.

fruits and veggies -- sold within 24 hours after picking (farmers markets). And yes, after I moved from L.A., I was in awe and amazement of how short a time it took to go up to the mountains to camp. When I lived down south it took have a day just to get out of town. Currently, my favorite camping spot is 1-1/2 hours away from my house and that's from my front door to my camp spot.

45. Fresno
is not nearly as bad as Bakersfield. We have friends who live in Fresno - they come down about 3 or 4 times a year and we get together... (They are all fiery Democrats) There are some older sections of historical homes that are really nice... Craftsman style homes on tree lined streets. It is right next to the Sierra's to the East. And there is a Whole Foods Market! One of the best food stores on the planet.

BTW - My husbands family lives in Turlock. It is a very pretty town. We will be passing through Fresno in a couple of months.

59. That brings back memories!
I went to SDSU. My family owned a land grant near Leucadia/Carlsbad, and I spent many happy childhood hours there- part of it is La Costa and Part of it is Aviara and part of it is I don't know. The land ran from Palomar Mt down Batiquitos lagoon to the Beach ( Solana)

Balboa park was where I did some of my best thinking when I cut school.

78. Balboa Park
Now I know where Balboa Park is. I just finished a memory album for my brother who died suddenly/unexpectedly and one of the pictures of him as a little towheaded boy is with my mom. She wrote on the back, Balboa Park. Now I can better label the picture. Thanks so much.
