Two unrelated topics, right? Not so. By this time in a month and a week or so, I'll be in Switzerland for a stop on my way to India. Apparently no one on the train from Zürich to Klosters speaks much English. How do you ask where the bathroom is, and such? (My mother is charging me with learning to communicate with the locals :eyes: :P)

1. The Swiss speak Englisch.
They speak hoch Deutsch too. Some speak Italian. And some speak French. They speak Englisch to each rather than learning each other's dialects. Get a phrase book. :P

2. I figured most people there would speak English to various extents.
We have Swiss DUers, even. Perhaps my mother's cousin was making stuff up. It'd be cool to learn, regardless. :P

14. Yeah, I wouldn't recommend the cargo hold on a transatlantic flight, either.
:( :P

18. Might be best to figure out a mode of transit that doesn't involve a box in the hold.
 :P

6. I was just in Southern Germany, near the Swiss border, a couple weeks ago...
everyone spoke English, and I mean everyone. I never had someone tell me "Sorry, no speak English" or what have you.

7. I wouldn't worry.
Most will speak English. And the bathroom on trains is always at the end of the wagons. ;) Besides, the train ride from Zürich to Klosters will take only around 2 hrs. What are you doing in Klosters? That's not exactly a stop on the way to India.

10. My mom's cousin lives there.
Flights from Chicago to New Delhi are dreary and expensive, so we're stopping in Switzerland for a few days. :P

And good about the bathrooms ;)

11. Hope you'll enjoy!
Klosters will be cold then, take some extra sweaters with you. Might even have snow. :hi:

9. Some basics....
Entschuldigung bitte, können Sie mir sagen, wo ist die Toilette? (Excuse me please, can you tell me where the bathroom is?) Possible answers: Gerade aus (straight ahead), dahinten (behind you there)

Haben Sie eine Speisekarte? (Do you have a menu?) Ich hätte gerne (I would like to have) Schnitzel und ein kaltes Bier (schnitzel and a cold beer). Noch mal (another please). Das Bier ist sehr gut, macht es dreimal bitte. (Hmmm the beer is really good, make it 3 more please).

Jetzt bin ich so besoffen, noch mal bitte, wo ist die Toilette? (Now I am so drunk, again please, where is the toilet?) Es tut mir leid, aber ich habe auf Ihren Schuhe gekotzt. (Excuse me, but I just puked on your shoe).

Dankey Skoney (Dankeschön) = that is my daughter's crazy way of saying it. not recommended.

PS. Get German for dummies, it will do for a train trip! And HAVE FUN!

:hi:

19. Just whip it out and go when you have to.
Someone will undoubtedly point you in the direction of the restroom.
