1940 -- with the center part and the "cinnamon rolls" on each side of the part on top. She said most people used mesh tubes called "rats" to fill in behind the hair, because they didn't have enough hair to make those rolls full.
Mom had so much hair she didn't need rats!!! I've got that problem too -- too much hair!
Thank Goddess for Hot Rollers!
