Spammers, Illiterates, Perverts, and Trolls, or why I love DU.

Other than the odd inflammatory comment, we don't have much of that on here.

I am sick of the people from certain other forums. People who don't know how to spell or form a proper sentence. People who constantly ask me if I want to "cyber". People who tell me, "You're going to hell", "I hope you get shot", "Why am I arguing with a 15-year-old", or "NOOB!" People who spam-bomb the boards with "you just got pwned"!

That is all. I love you all - well, most of you, anyway. :-)

20. One of the guys in my area at work is an avid WoW player... and he actually uses that in casual

conversation. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard him yell "(*&%ing Noob!". :)

16. Strangely enough, "pwned" only seems to exist in the past tense.

One does not say, "I shall travel via the Internet to my favorite gaming site and pwn a noob today."

Instead, one says, "dOOd, u wuz jst PWNED!1!1!1"

And if that last example sentence wasn't frightening enough, serious linguistic studies have been conducted on the emerging language of "l33t." I die a little inside every time I type that, but it's true.

I used to encounter it quite a bit when I wandered through AOL message boards ( and back then, I had quite a bit of fun with stupid people, and tortured many ) but at least here, they seem to be noticed very quickly and disposed of quickly....

Never seen any spam on here...but perverts....what's your problem with that? just kidding

18. A lot of places,

Especially on high-traffic boards, or ones where the possible topics of discussion are overly broad.

For example, I signed up for GoLiveWire, which is a teen-focused message board, and within 3 minutes of my first post, someone PM'ed me saying "What do you think about sex?"
