I am grading papers
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I learned some interesting things grading a short answer about the factors that led to the explortions, such as:

King James II, from Portugal, invented the stable governor.

Marco Polo was an italianist

9. I used to be a grad student at Yale, and you'd be amazed at some of the things
Yalies would write on their world history tests. (One of my roommates was a TA for that course.)

One paper was so funny that we got together and illustrated it.

For example, in talking about the medieval "surphs," this student said, "The surphs didn't get any money for their work. Their sweat went to their lord."

We drew a picture of some medieval serfs standing in line to wring out their shirts over a vat. One of the serfs was saying, "I wonder what he does with it."
