21.5 Miles
Today. Last big run pre-Marathon. I did it in 4 1/2 hours with two stops at a Kroger on the way and one at the State Capital. I meant to really run 20 but the course I ran worked out to be 21.5 miles.

The Channel 6 tower is only 3 miles from Capital square but damn it looks a lot further-totally got into my own head on the 2nd half of the run.

Sore as hell but I did the biggee!!!

:woohoo:

20 days left

5. Ice bath
I have to agree with Runners World about the ice bath thing-well at least the really really cold shower this afternoon really eased a lot of the post run pain.

If he did 10 he will have no problem with 13.1. I ran one few weeks ago and all the on course support and comraderie goes a long way though there are stretches, of course, of just running from A to B. I also learned to concentrate on take it slow at the beginning.

9. Not sure about the weather
it has been DRY here (Richmond va) but we are talking about 20 days away so there is no telling.

First marathon so I just want to finish. I should be able to come in under 5 hours. I ran a cross country 1/2 in 2:15 three weeks ago (known apparently as a slow course) so we will see. I would bet on a time right at 5 hours.

13. Let me ask you something
I've watched your transformation here, and I'm inspired. How do your knees, calves, etc hold up? I mean do you feel it, or do they just go numb after a couple miles? I ask because I max out every machine at the gym for lower legs (knees down) but when I run, they are my weakest link.

Absolutely incredible, either way.

14. Knees knees knees
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 08:04 PM by underpants
everyone always asks about the knees-they seem to be the most common ailment. I haven't had any problem with them at all until the last few weeks-my knee cap hurts, like right in the middle of the knee cap itself. Runners World had a illustration about how this is indicative of one ailment but I forgot what it is. I really need to stop looking at that stuff because I am a HUGE hypchondriac (my wife laughs her ass off at my sympathy illnesses).

From day one (Jan. 30th) I knew that the test here would be for my quads. I have had no problem with lungs or back (some upper back tightness recently) for the most part and my legs look like they are chiseled out of stone-really tight.

No numbness to speak of. I have developed quite a taping technique which really helps. I did go to a podiatrist in the middle of this but I don't run with the orthotics (wear them in my everyday shoes)because I don't like the hard impact-self diagnosed.

Basically I haven't had any problem (knock on wood) and for the last month or so I have become preoccupied with avoiding injury. I can't wait to get this one (knock) under my belt and be able to push it without fear of having 9 months get wasted.

ON EDIt- I ran an extra mile at the end of my "official" run. I ran the first 3/4 mile track from my first day-sort of a "F**& up" to that horrible first day.

15. My quads aren't a problem at all. It seems to be in my shins.
I think that it's because I really just don't know how to run properly for distance.

I hope that someday I can join you in the "I did that" marathon circle. I don't want to win, I would just love to finish. I've been staring at that apple for a long, long time.

Hey, good luck. Do it for you, but also for us failing fellow Clydesdales.
