FUCK! I just got in a hit and run.
I was on my way to meet my folks for dinner and I was about to pull into the parking lot of the restaurant and some jackass hits me from behind. So I get out, naturally I'm pissed (since it's a new car and everything) and so I get out to check the damage, and the other guy gets out. So after I calm down, I tell him to pull in the parking lot so we can exchange insurance info. Jackass instead, turns the OTHER way down the street and bolts. God damn it.

I reported it to the police as a hit and run but I don't know if they will find anything since it's a new car that hit me (ironically), and it didn't have a manufacturer grill on the front so I didn't know what make/model it was (although I assume it's a Dodge).

Does anyone have advice for this sort of thing?

1. Hope you have full coverage
Let the cops file the report, you file a claim and get the car fixed, there isn't anything else you can do at this point, hopefully they will catch the jerk, hit n run drivers suck.

That's all the cop said I could do. I'm freaking pissed right now. Haven't even had my car two months.

4. this happened to a friend of mine a few months ago
brand new car, had it only a couple of weeks, some jerk blew thru a red light and hit their car...cops came, there was a witness who said they knew where the car was, unfortunately the officer didn't seem overly concerned about looking for the other driver and they never did find the offender's car.

5. Thanks, Peggy!
Yeah, it sucks. Thankfully there wasn't a whole lot of damage, just a broken tail light and the fender got pushed up, but that should be easily fixed.

6. That's a pain. You need to carry a gun and a pit bull "just in case"
that would make sure they didn't run. Good luck with insurance co.

seriously, hit and run people should get in big trouble.

Edited to add, my apologies to those who thought I was being too violent. Distract with the chi and zap! That's better, right? Just relax them?

11. 1st make sure you secure the police report because your insurer
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 11:28 PM by burythehatchet
will demand it. Don't hold out hope of finding who did it, its not a big priority for cops, they're busy tazing second graders. Let Karma take care of the rest.

12. He was probably late for dinner
at the Olive Garden.

Seriously, keep a copy of the police report and send it to your insurance company. The idiots usually hit my car while it's in the supermarket parking lot - no witnesses, no note. At this point, the car's so totally beat up that it doesn't matter, but it really ticked me off when the car was new.
